About this event

By acknowledging and working with the physical properties of differing colors in watercolor media, you can be creative without an idea of what the end result may be. Modeled after his successful Non-Traditional Watercolor course at the Chautauqua Institution (June 2026) and condensed from his popular three-day Studio Watercolor course offered through the Mill Art Center and Gallery, Stu Chait offers this one-day workshop using unintentional and non-traditional methods and techniques. By removing all intent from the creative process, Stu has eliminated the critic and expectations as well.

Participants will bring their own watercolor paints (tubed, not pan or cakes) and brushes. All other materials will be provided

Download a Registration form here . Payment can be made via check or via PayPal. Please note that an RSVP does not save your spot in this workshop. A registration form and payment need to be received before you are registered. First come, first served.

Bio: Stu Chait is a life-long artist. Influenced by his great grandfather, architect Charles W. Eldridge, Stu appreciated that art is integral to architecture, and continued to study drawing, pastels, and watercolor, while pursuing his architectural degree. After graduating with High Honors from the

School of Architecture at the University of Tennessee in 1979, Stu returned to Rochester with his wife Cindy. While establishing his award-winning architectural practice, Stu’s desire to return to fine art continued to grow. Studies with noted art instructor Gail Kellogg further fueled his love of watercolor and a passion to create art. He then studied color theory with noted color theorist/artist Kathryn Bevier. His work with internationally renowned abstract artist Steve Carpenter challenged Stu to delve into uncharted subject matter, techniques, and applications.

Stu has been highlighted in feature articles in national painting journals. A few highlights include:

• Finalist in the Abstract/Experimental Category of The Artist’s Magazine 28th Annual Art, 201

• Juried into the Arena Art Group, one of the foremost groups representing abstract and contemporary art in upstate New York, 2012.

• First adjunct studio faculty of the new Architecture Program at the Rochester Institute of Technology, in addition to teaching several watercolor seminars to fellow artists and architects alike.

• Starry Nights Artists to Look Out For, volume 1, 2014

• Faculty of the Mill Art Center in Honeoye Falls, 2019-present.

• Signature member of the Rochester Art Club, 2024. Stu’s work is in private collections around the country as well as internationally. His non-exclusive representation is with DAC Hospitality in Atlanta, and Kalisher in Durham, N.C.
