- ➤ Roc Holiday Village in downtown Rochester remains open through Sunday, Dec. 28 with ice skating, crafts and live music while Kwanzaa celebrations continue at City Hall, the Central Library and local centers through Jan. 1. News 10
ACCIDENTS NEWS
- ➤ Police said a woman who accidentally drove into a pond at Towne Center at Webster on Tuesday was rescued by Good Samaritans + including a police officer and a town code enforcement employee who worked quickly to free her, with hospital transport as a precaution. ABC 13
- ➤ On Friday, Dec. 26, drivers in the region faced icy roads and sleet in Henrietta as plow trucks cleared snow and a vehicle crashed into a home near Erie Station Road, causing minor injuries. ABC 13
CULTURE NEWS
- ➤ The Rochester Kwanzaa Coalition launched a week-long celebration Friday, Dec. 26 at City Hall with music, dancing and local vendors to honor African American culture, and events will continue this week with film screenings, community workshops and cultural showcases. ABC 13
ECONOMY NEWS
- ➤ Car dealerships are offering end-of-year promotions that began Friday and run until New Year's Eve to clear old inventory. Ray Shefska — a former dealership manager — advises buyers to focus on the total cost and research pricing before negotiating at local dealerships. News 10
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ During a tour of the St. Paul Blvd. Firehouse, guests saw that the firefighters’ bunk room lacked privacy (a concern that led to new plans) and officials say a new firehouse is planned (to improve working conditions). Democrat & Chronicle
- ➤ Gov. Kathy Hochul signed a new bill requiring social media platforms to display warning labels for auto-play videos and infinite scrolling. The labels warn young users about mental health risks when features load and will appear periodically. News 10
HEALTH NEWS
- ➤ New York’s health department reported more than 71,000 flu cases this week — the highest since reporting began in 2004 — with over 2,300 cases in Monroe County. Officials advise residents to get a flu shot, stay home when sick, and wash hands frequently. News 10
LIFESTYLE NEWS
- ➤ After slow travel on Christmas Eve and Christmas Day, many travelers at Rochester’s airport faced heavy snow and delays Friday as one flight (6:15 a.m.) was canceled and AAA advised checking connecting flights. News 10

- ➤ Faber Builders presented Section V Athletes of the Week (Dec. 15-21) as Lyons freshman Ja’Niyah Bell and Greece Storm goalie Stratos Triantafilou earned top votes with over 5,000 and 7,000 votes respectively for strong performances in girls basketball and soccer. Democrat & Chronicle
