- ➤ The new women’s shelter Pulling My Sister Up held its grand opening Saturday afternoon in Rochester with holiday festivities, refreshments, and a winter gear giveaway. CEO Ebony Griffin said the shelter offers five rooms and services supporting business, physical, and mental wellness. ABC 13
- ➤ Ricks launched his Mentors Inspiring Boys and Girls program at the Roxie Ann Sinkler R-Center to guide local youth after his son's death— the program helps kids learn and thrive and will soon expand to two more sites. News 10
- ➤ Multiple organizations are participating in the Wreaths Across America program during the holiday season, placing wreaths at veterans' headstones across more than 4,900 locations including two events in Churchville (Monroe County) to help children learn the importance of remembrance. News 10
- ➤ On Friday, a bus from Mexico arrived in Hilton with 16 rescued dogs for adoption as local nonprofit Wags and Wings continues its efforts to find them forever homes; supporter Cathy Lepp adopted three dogs. News 10
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Hope Hall School held its annual woodworking sale on Saturday in Rochester, featuring handcrafted wood items like toys, furniture, and home decor. Proceeds supported the woodworking course for grades 10-12, which combines math with hands-on skill trades. News 10
- ➤ The Wayne County Sheriff’s Office Recreational Safety Division is offering the N.Y. State Snowmobile Safety Course for youth on January 19 from 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. at the Lakeshore Riders Groomer Barn in North Rose; participants must bring a pen, a guardian must sign, and lunch+pizza is provided. GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ The NYSDOT said that the eastbound exit ramp at 490 Exit 27 in Perinton reopened after months of construction that began in March — easing delays for drivers. The state will replace the westbound bridges in 2026 with the project set to finish by fall. ABC 13

- ➤ Section V girls indoor track results for the 2025–26 season have been published with details from a Dec. 5 meet in Monroe County covering sprints, relays, and field events from teams including Victor, Batavia, and Webster Thomas.
