  • Volunteers in Pittsford packaged over 13,000 'Twelve Days of Christmas' gift sets (each with a handwritten note) for deployed service members during the holiday season. Full Circle Home prepared to send 1,200 sets, including 125 for injured troops at Walter Reed.  News 10
  • The C.U.R.E. Childhood Cancer Association hosted a holiday party in Rochester that brought together dozens of families, featuring gingerbread house building, reindeer visits, and an appearance by Santa and Mrs. Claus.   • Residents with mobility issues face dangerous winter conditions in Rochester as snow and ice on sidewalks make travel nearly impossible, and advocates urge city officials to review the current four-inch clearance rule — many say the policy risks public safety for wheelchair users.  Spectrum News

  • After a fire last March gutted all but one bathroom, The Coach Sports Bar at 19 W. Main St. in Webster will reopen in March with a new kitchen — the rebuild adds a new front entrance and bigger windows to welcome regulars.  Democrat & Chronicle
  • Nearly nine months after a fire damaged The Coach Sports Bar in Webster, owner Fritz Sierk said repairs are underway and the bar will reopen in March with its popular pizza and wing specials. The local community has supported the rebuild through fundraisers and ongoing encouragement.  News 10

CULTURE NEWS

  • USA Today’s 10Best Readers’ Choice Awards (Dec. 10) ranked two local holiday attractions among the nation’s best. Roc Holiday Village at MLK Park earned top marks as a holiday market and ice rink, while Genesee Brew House’s keg tree was honored as a standout public holiday lights display.  Democrat & Chronicle
  • The Strong Museum of Play in Rochester honored late toy creator Burt Meyer, 99, with the induction of his Lite-Brite into the Toy Hall of Fame. Meyer — known for classics like Rock 'Em Sock 'Em Robots and Mouse Trap — died Oct. 30.  News 10
  • The annual Sweet Creations gingerbread celebration is underway at the George Eastman Museum and runs until January 4. Families and businesses have crafted gingerbread art for 30+ years, showcasing creations like Who-ville and table-top trees with some pieces available in an online auction to support the museum.  News 10

  • Roberts Wesleyan University is offering a fully online dual-certification Master’s in Education program in Childhood or Adolescence and Special Education — including fieldwork and faculty mentorship to address the teacher shortage.  News 10

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • City Hall has issued a request for proposals to lead a nearly $60M modernization of the Riverside Convention Center — its largest renovation in 40 years. The project is part of the ROC the Riverway plan to revitalize the Genesee Riverfront, and proposals must be submitted by Friday, Jan. 30.  Spectrum News
  • Lollypop Farm in Fairport received a $20K grant from the U.S. Department of Justice to upgrade mobile radio communications systems in its patrol cars for animal cruelty calls. The upgrade will help its five investigators & one dispatcher maintain clear coordination with local law enforcement.  News 10
  • Monroe County is offering free bus rides to warming centers during Code Blue when temperatures fall below freezing, with routes for the Open Door Mission, House of Mercy, and other shelters. Locals needing a ride should use any RTS bus stop for assistance in reaching the correct shelter.  News 10
