COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Monroe Avenue will host a full day of events on Saturday, Nov. 29, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.—local shops, restaurants, and groups will join to counter big retail trends, while activities include a community cleanup, a holiday bazaar, food sampling from noon to 2 p.m.—and an open house at the Monroe Avenue Firehouse to support local business.  News 10
  • ROC 7 held a turkey giveaway on November 22 by handing out nearly 700 turkeys to local families for Thanksgiving; owner Fayez Almuhganahi said the event demonstrated the store's commitment to the community—supporting families in need.  ABC 13
  • Friday morning, volunteers from Walking for Rochester picked up about 100 pounds of litter along Culver Road and Monroe Avenue to improve community cleanliness — the nonprofit will host its next cleanup event on Tuesday, Nov 25 from 10:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. at the corner of South and Averill Avenue in the South Wedge.  News 10

ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • A water main break on Culver Road on Tuesday released two million gallons that flooded basements and left 36 customers without water while the city investigated a delayed response — community volunteers and city crews helped residents clean up as some seek compensation.  ABC 13

CULTURE NEWS

  • The Flower City Tattoo Convention kicked off Friday and will run through today from 12 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Floreano Convention Center—marking its fourth year as one of the fastest-growing events for over 400 tattoo artists from around the world—showcasing styles from American traditional to Japanese Irezumi.  News 10

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Starting Saturday at 9 a.m., Rochester Public Market will distribute FreshConnect emergency food checks to eligible families facing food insecurity from the government shutdown and rising food costs. Families will receive $20 in coupons per person at designated spots, and the vouchers expire Dec. 31 — checks will be available every Saturday until Dec. 27.  News 10

HEALTH NEWS

  • Firefighters in Rochester warned that kitchens could face 240% more fires on Thanksgiving as the city ranked third nationally with 6,715 reported incidents over recent years. Battalion Chief Brian Gebo advised residents to clean ovens and remove flammable items—simple steps that may help prevent dangerous fires this holiday.  Spectrum News
