- ➤ Collin Cusimano—sixth grader at Iroquois Middle School—organized a drive for baseball and softball equipment after tearing his ACL this winter to help cut costs on expensive gear. He will hold another donation event on November 22 from 2:30 to 4:30 at the West Irondequoit School District Office, and nominations for Monroe County students are open. News 10
- ➤ Common Ground Health is seeking donations to fill 250 gift bags aimed at brightening the days of older adults in seven local nursing homes this holiday season. Interested donors can drop off items or arrange a pickup until Dec. 16—businesses and groups that support the effort will be recognized. Democrat & Chronicle
- ➤ News10NBC’s 8th annual Toys for Tots drive will kick off Monday in Rochester to help ensure every child gets a toy during the holiday season — organizers reported that last year the drive collected 102,930 toys and now expands to eight counties after merging the Macedon and Rochester campaigns. Donations of new, unwrapped toys for children from newborn to age 16 will be accepted at local drop-off sites until December 14. News 10
- ➤ The Gandhi Institute, founded by Arun Gandhi (grandson of Mohandas Gandhi), holds workshops, community dinners and volunteer events with local schools and groups to teach nonviolence. It has been active in Rochester since moving from Tennessee in 2007 and works to build strong community ties. Campus Times
ACCIDENTS NEWS
- ➤ After a carbon monoxide leak was detected Monday morning at Paul Road Elementary School in Chili, firefighters responded at 10:30 a.m.—the leak was confined to the boiler room—and moved students to Spartan Field House until Rochester Gas & Electric deemed the site safe. ABC 13

- ➤ A Rochester mother has been canvassing neighborhoods after her 26-year-old son Jaquan McCoggle disappeared from his Brown Street home on Nov. 5 at 11:23 p.m.—police are investigating his case amid concerns over his mental health, and family and neighbors are asked to report any sightings. - ➤ Marilla’s Mindful Supplies offers refill stations for everyday items like vegan candy and coffee to cut down on plastic waste—helping locals shop sustainably. Owner Marilla Gonzalez started the business in Geneva in 2018 and later expanded to a South Wedge location in 2022 to meet community demand. ABC 13

- ➤ Elected leaders and local authorities launched MonroeAlert Monday to send real-time safety alerts via text, email, phone call or mobile app—and the system warns residents about severe weather, safety incidents, travel restrictions, and shelter details while allowing them to share personal emergency needs. Monroe County Sheriff Todd Baxter said the platform will help prioritize resources during the early phase of any crisis. ABC 13
- ➤ The Federal Aviation Administration lifted all restrictions on commercial flights to 40 major airports at 6 a.m. on Monday after staffing levels stabilized following the shutdown. Rochester travelers now have more flight options for their Thanksgiving plans. News 10
