COMMUNITY NEWS

  • The Rochester Jamaican Organization is hosting Jammin’ for Jamaica today from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. at Tropix Eatery at 4775 Lake Ave to raise funds and send supplies to those affected by Hurricane Melissa in Jamaica — the event has already raised over $45,000 as dozens enjoy reggae music and Caribbean food.  News 10
  • Monroe Ambulance is running its 'Fill An Ambulance' Food Drive to help families in Greece this Thanksgiving + has partnered with local fire departments to collect non-perishable food and gift cards for the Greece Ecumenical Food Shelf and Clothing Closet. The drive runs from November 11 to November 23 with drop-offs at N. Greece HQ Fire Station 2 on November 16 and November 19 from 10 a.m. to Noon, Barnard Fire Station on November 18 from Noon to 2 p.m., Ridge Road Fire Station on November 20 from Noon to 2 p.m., N. Greece Fire Station 1 on November 21 from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m., and Lake Shore Fire Station on November 23 from 10 a.m. to Noon + residents can donate during the posted times.  ABC 13
  • Families of road traffic victims gathered at Parcel Five in Rochester on Sunday for World Day of Remembrance for Road Traffic Victims to honor loved ones lost in Monroe County collisions. Organized by Reconnect Rochester, the event featured 140 pairs of shoes, yellow flags, and buildings lit in yellow — a tribute to pedestrians and cyclists injured or killed.  News 10

  • The U.S. Mint stopped making pennies in November because it cost too much to make them and people now pay in new ways—local stores are rounding totals and offering deals like a $20 gift card for every $10 in pennies to help customers adjust. These changes are pushing both shoppers and businesses to move away from small change.  Spectrum News

CULTURE NEWS

  • On Saturday, the Memorial Art Gallery held a Haudenosaunee Heritage Celebration Day with free admission, traditional dances, storytelling, and cultural displays. Wampum bearer Richard Hamell noted that fourth-grade programs let children create wampum art that shows their connection to the land—presentations by three clans added to the richness of the event.  News 10

  • On Nov. 11th, a 113-year-old water main burst on Culver Road in Rochester — releasing 2 million gallons of water and leaving 36 customers without service — which also caused flooding in 10 homes. Experts warn that aging water systems remain underfunded nationwide.  Democrat & Chronicle

HEALTH NEWS

  • Dave Farrell reached his 1,000th donation milestone during his Saturday appointment at the American Red Cross, marking nearly 60 years of donating platelets every two weeks. He said his life-saving work helps people and he hopes to inspire others to donate during the holiday season.  Spectrum News

SPORTS NEWS

  • NFL insider Jordan Schultz reported that Bills wide receiver Keon Coleman is inactive for Sunday’s game against the Buccaneers—he will not play as the coach opts to evaluate him in other areas before relying on Mecole Hardman, Gabe Davis, and Joshua Palmer to boost the receiver lineup. The decision, which is not based on his recent performance, is intended to help Coleman grow in his role with the team.  Democrat & Chronicle
