  • Construction begins on a $13M affordable family housing project in Upper Falls to provide new home options for families in Rochester — the investment is expected to bring lasting benefits to the community.  Democrat & Chronicle
  • Rochester Hearing and Speech Center will host the Ultimate 80s Party fundraiser on Saturday, November 15 at Eagle Vale Golf Club—participants will enjoy an 80s-themed evening from 7 to 11 p.m. in support of the center.  ABC 13
  • Trinity Emmanuel Presbyterian Church's hot breakfast program has grown over its three-year run and now serves nearly 100 people every Saturday.  Democrat & Chronicle

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Beloved Pat's Coffee Mug in the South Wedge, run by owner Pat Hall and her daughter Debbie Thomas, will serve its final meal on Nov. 25 after more than 30 years. The diner is open from 6 a.m. to 2 p.m. Monday through Friday (it accepts cash only).  Democrat & Chronicle
  • Syracuse-based furniture retailer Dunk & Bright will move into Henrietta by taking over the former Burlington store at South Town Plaza—its 72,000-square-foot location will undergo a $4 million renovation to update the plaza, parking lot and monument sign. The company said it will open the store in April or May and hire 20-30 employees.  ABC 13
  • Penfield’s BayTowne Walmart Supercenter completed its major makeover on Oct 31—updates include a larger, relocated grocery pickup area, remodeled pharmacy and optical, and widened aisles with new signage. Manager Edward Bertus said the changes were based on customer feedback to improve the shopping experience.  Democrat & Chronicle

CULTURE NEWS

  • Tickets are on sale for Rochester City Ballet’s annual production of The Nutcracker — the show will run from Nov. 26 to Nov. 30 at Kodak Hall at Eastman Theatre and from Dec. 5 to Dec. 7 at Fort Hill Performing Arts Center — with a free sensory friendly matinee on Dec. 7 at 11 a.m. for families and caregivers.  News 10

ECONOMY NEWS

  • New Yorkers who qualify for a one-time inflation refund check should expect to receive it soon as the state mailed 6.1 million checks by November 7 — mailings will continue until the end of November with amounts ranging from $150 to $400 based on income and filing status. This payment requires that you filed your tax return and met specific income guidelines.  Democrat & Chronicle

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Monroe County’s tunnel system holds about 175 million gallons — roughly equal to 256 Olympic-sized swimming pools — revealing a little-known fact about the area’s vast underground capacity.  Democrat & Chronicle

SPORTS NEWS

  • Analysts favor the Bills in their Week 11 home game against the Buccaneers after Buffalo suffered a tough loss to the Dolphins. Both teams are coming off defeats, but oddsmakers give Buffalo a 5.5-point edge — projections say the win will keep them in playoff contention.  Democrat & Chronicle
  • Brighton native Ernie Clement, an infielder for the Blue Jays who set a postseason record with 30 hits, will appear at the Rochester Red Wings team store on Saturday, Nov. 29 from 12 to 1 p.m. (Small Business Saturday) where fans can get free autographs and meet other team members making appearances.  News 10
