COMMUNITY NEWS

  • St. Pius X School in Chili is marking Veterans Day with its third annual Field of Honor display that shows American flags dedicated to servicemembers and first responders—each flag donation giving $15 to the Veterans Outreach Center. The display began Monday, Nov. 10 and will close Friday at 11 a.m.  ABC 13
  • Reconnect Rochester opened its new 4,100 square foot office in the Harro East Building on Andrews Street on Monday, Nov. 10—this space will host events, meetings, and classes to support safe transportation for everyone in Monroe County.  ABC 13
  • Local leaders gathered at Blue Cross Arena Monday to unveil a World War II plaque honoring more than 70 veterans missing from the War Memorial wall. Researcher Steven Momano discovered the oversight while researching at a local cemetery and stressed their service can never be repaid — ensuring their names are remembered.  ABC 13

ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • Raquell Sykes and 22 other residents were forced to leave their apartments after a five-alarm fire at the Mayflower apartment on Meigs Street damaged the building amid the season’s first snow—fire crews had controlled the blaze by nearly 9:30 p.m. Sunday while Sykes rescued her cat and another was found dead.  ABC 13

CULTURE NEWS

  • Rochester’s Genesee Keg Tree, a cherished holiday tradition, was nominated for Best Christmas Tree 2026 by Newsweek and stands as one of 15 finalists competing against trees from New York City, Washington, D.C. and Boston’s Faneuil Hall Marketplace—voters will soon have a chance to cast their ballots.  News 10

FINANCE NEWS

  • Rochester’s Generational Wealth Summit will take place on Nov. 15 from noon to 2 p.m. at UPrep Charter School on Lake Avenue—where Financial Empowerment Director Angela Rollins and senior housing counselor Melinda Thomas will outline strategies to build wealth across generations.  ABC 13

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Today the Rochester region is hosting ceremonies for Veterans Day to honor veterans and recognize their service and sacrifice. Laura Heltz—executive director of Veterans Outreach Center—said her Army experience led her to serve local veterans by offering support with jobs, housing, and wellness.  News 10
  • A 2024 report on Child Protective Services in Monroe County found that 76% of 6,768 investigations were unfounded and cost taxpayers $13.76 million. Ashley Cross said lengthy probes hurt families by causing about $2.2 million in lost wages and school time.  ABC 13
  • Mayor Malik D. Evans announced Rochester Roots—an affordable homeownership initiative to build 15 energy-efficient single-family homes in the JOSANA neighborhood led by the Rochester Land Bank Corporation and Cornerstone Group. The project will begin early 2026 with applications opening next summer for buyers earning at or below 80% of the Area Median Income.  City of Rochester

HEALTH NEWS

  • Monroe County health officials reported that 13,582 children were tested for lead in 2024 and 299 were found with high levels, a 6% increase from 2023. They said more testing gives a clearer view of lead risks in Rochester and Monroe County — highlighting the need for ongoing prevention efforts — as they work to keep children safe.  WXXI News

REAL ESTATE NEWS

  • On Monday, First Genesis Development Corporation broke ground on an affordable housing project at the intersection of Edward & Gilmore streets in Upper Falls. Local leaders including County Executive Adam Bello, Mayor Malik Evans & Rep. Joe Morelle attended the ceremony, and officials said the project is part of a broader plan to increase housing options in the city.  News 10
