COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Genesee Park SDA Church will host its annual Community Day and Coat Giveaway on Sunday from noon to 2:00 p.m. at 391 Genesee Park Boulevard — attendees will receive a free breakfast, pantry items, and warm coats and accessories for winter.  ABC 13
  • Rev. Kito March is the new pastor at Aenon Missionary Baptist Church in Rochester and will focus on education, community service and revitalizing the church. He moved here from Cleveland in May after feeling a deep spiritual connection and plans to create a welcoming space for all—all ages and backgrounds.  Democrat & Chronicle
  • At People's Choice Kitchen on Brooks Avenue, owner Evangela Stanley said about 150 people received free meals Sunday to help families affected by SNAP benefit delays amid the government shutdown—more events and turkey donations are being planned for Thanksgiving. Local restaurant partners are joining the effort to support those in need.  ABC 13
  • On Tuesday, November 11th, many Rochester restaurants will offer free meals and special deals for veterans and active duty military; guests must show a valid service card+offers include free burgers, pancakes and car washes at chains such as Applebee's+Bill Gray's and Texas Roadhouse.  Democrat & Chronicle

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Tops Friendly Markets will offer veterans and military families 11% off grocery purchases on Veterans Day, Nov. 11, if they show proof of service — select stores will also sell 4-by-6-foot U.S. flags with some proceeds going to Buffalo Niagara Honor Flight through Nov. 15 and the chain has saved over $1 million for veterans since 2014.  Democrat & Chronicle

CULTURE NEWS

  • A jazz concert celebrating its rich history took place at Mount Olivet Baptist Church Sunday evening. Pastor Rick Harvey organized the event where songs by jazz legends like Duke Ellington were performed and attendees learned about the meaning behind the music.  News 10
  • Rochester held a fantasy fundraiser called 'Knight to Remember' that featured art, poetry and magic to support more artist visits in schools and community programs. Larry Moss from Teaching Artists ROC said the event reached learners of all ages—bringing a fresh twist to local art education.  News 10

EDUCATION NEWS

  • The Strong National Museum of Play in Rochester will host its second Clixo STEM Day on Sunday — the event will feature a Clixo Creation Studio where kids and parents build projects with snap-together magnetic pieces. The museum will also celebrate its National Toy Hall of Fame — admission is free with museum entry.  ABC 13

REAL ESTATE NEWS

  • Rochester’s Cornerstone Group & the city’s Land Bank will build 15 affordable houses in the JOSANA neighborhood north of downtown. Construction will start in January with homes designed for families earning 50% to 60% of the area median income, using federal, state and local funds.  WXXI News

  • On Nov. 9, the Flower City Special Hockey team played against the all-veteran Flower City Warriors in Rochester to honor Veterans Day and the Marine Corps’ 250th anniversary. The match focused on hockey’s healing power — with a team leader noting that veterans continue to serve their communities.  ABC 13
