COMMUNITY NEWS

  • On November 4th, St. Andrew’s Food Cupboard on Portland Avenue in Rochester set a record day by serving 55 families as SNAP benefits ended and long lines formed outside—volunteers turned people away at closing due to limited supplies.  ABC 13
  • Simply Crepes opened an emergency food distribution center Tuesday at its Bay Road location in Penfield to give out bags with fresh eggs, produce, bread, and milk to SNAP or WIC recipients. The center operated from 1 to 5 p.m. throughout November—customers could round up their checks to support a local food cupboard.  ABC 13
  • Local food pantries in Greece have begun offering delivery options for residents without transportation or who are housebound & 46 families visited the Greece Ecumenical Food Shelf on Tuesday, marking its highest turnout ever. Single mother Ashley Williams and volunteer Nancy Williams said the service helps those in need.  News 10
  • As the weather gets chillier, several groups in Rochester are hosting donation drives to collect winter coats, toys, school supplies, and food to help neighbors in need—Hooked Fish Market with RCSD No.9 will accept items until Nov. 20, and state drives are running through Dec. 5 while the House of Mercy and Open Door Mission have regular drop-off hours.  News 10
  • The annual Skycoasters Turkey Bash will take place Friday, Nov. 14 from 7 to 11 p.m. at the Strathallan Hotel on East Ave in Rochester to benefit Honor Flight Veterans. Adult attendees pay $25 while Nikki Rudd and veterans sell $5 raffle tickets—offering food, a silent disco, and a live performance by the Skycoasters from 8:30 to 11 p.m.  News 10

CULTURE NEWS

  • Today, CP Rochester and University of Rochester celebrate 15 years of the Inspiration Project at the Hawkins-Carlson Room in UR's Rush Rhees Library. The project is a milestone in collaborative writing—led by Professor Joanna Scott and Latrice Person—which honors a legacy of partnership.  FOX Rochester
  • The Rochester Jazz Festival now includes Kodak Hall shows with its Club Pass, which will cost about $399 if bought between November 7 and December 31, rising to $420 from January 1 through March 9 and $441 thereafter—ticket sales begin on Friday morning for the 2026 festival running from June 19 through June 27.  News 10

EDUCATION NEWS

  • The Mobile Museum of Tolerance hosted an open house yesterday at Parcel 5 that used immersive technology to present history lessons on Anne Frank and the Civil Rights Movement—helping visitors reflect on ways to counter local hate. Executive director Monica Gebell said the event followed a survey showing a rise in hate and stressed the need to focus on younger generations.  ABC 13
  • Buffalo Bills players visited Churchville-Chili Middle School on Tuesday, Nov. 4 — they led a pep rally and flag football drills for younger students while older students greeted the team in a hallway walk-through — as part of the NFL's Play 60 event aimed at promoting physical activity.  ABC 13

HEALTH NEWS

  • Advocates warn that planned Medicaid cuts during the government shutdown will hurt military veterans in New York, where 82,900 veterans rely on the program—the highest share in the nation. They said the cuts may force more veterans to seek care outside the VA and worsen mental health outcomes— concerns that leave rural areas especially at risk.  WXXI News

  • Rochester area bakeries have started taking pre-orders for Thanksgiving pies, desserts and savory treats that include both classic favorites and creative flavors.   • The Buffalo Bills beat the Kansas City Chiefs, 28–21 on Sunday at Highmark Stadium as key players like Josh Allen and James Cook led the win, boosting the team's record and power ranking.
