  • Wegmans Food Markets launched its 32nd annual Check Out Hunger campaign at over 20 local stores to support Foodlink—the region’s primary food bank distributor—by encouraging shoppers to round up their totals or donate extra at checkout. The campaign will run through Nov. 29 as expected federal changes may increase demand for food assistance.  Democrat & Chronicle

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Chick-fil-A will open its fourth Monroe County restaurant at 6:30 a.m. Oct. 29 at 4871 Lake Road South in Sweden, employing around 100 staff and offering carry-out + delivery + curbside pick-up options. Customers who wear cow-themed clothing or a cow-spotted accessory will get a free entrée or kid’s meal while supplies last.  Democrat & Chronicle
  • Bass Pro Shops will open a 90,000-square-foot outdoor store at Eastview Mall in Victor in late 2026. The project will create over 120 jobs and uses the long-vacant former Lord & Taylor space—showing a team effort with local officials.  Democrat & Chronicle

  • Taco Dero chef and co-owner Cordero Rivera explained the 'I Love the 90s' event will celebrate nineties music and support local businesses with a show from 2 to 10 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 26 at Rochester Community Sports Complex—Rashad Smith of Everyday People PR also outlined additional details.  ABC 13
  • The RMSC museum exhibit Astronaut, which shows how astronauts live in orbit, opened on Oct. 17 — with visitor Chris Lopez opening pod bay doors as part of its interactive display.  ABC 13

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • New designs for High Falls State Park show plans for restored woodlands, meadows, playgrounds, seating areas and a train trestle walk along the river. Construction will begin in late 2026 on the 40-acre, ribbon-like stretch—work that will be completed in phases as environmental cleanups and land acquisitions move forward.  WXXI News
  • A 2.2-magnitude earthquake shook north of Wayne County in Lake Ontario on Oct. 22 at 11:19 p.m.—the quake hit 12 miles north of Pultneyville at a depth of 7.9 km and was felt in Rochester without causing damage. Historical quakes in the region remind locals that tremors have occurred before, though no injuries were reported this time.  Democrat & Chronicle

  • Newsweek named several Rochester area nursing homes among New York’s best; The Jewish Home was best for large facilities, Friendly Home ranked 6th, Aaron Manor Rehabilitation was 2nd, Edna Tina Wilson Living Center was 5th, and Webster’s Maplewood came in 2nd for small facilities.
