- ➤ Angels of Mercy held its Domestic Violence Awareness Stroll on Oct. 16 to collect donations of essentials for local women at Butterfly Boutique on North Winton Road. City officials, law enforcement and legal experts held a roundtable Friday to discuss prevention strategies as domestic violence remains a serious public crisis in Rochester. ABC 13
- ➤ This weekend, Rochester hosts a busy lineup of events including the 25th MAG fine craft show and sale at the Memorial Art Gallery running today and Sunday, a youth fencing tournament at Nazareth University that started Friday and continues through Sunday, and Saturday’s Unity Market at the Rochester Public Market featuring Indigenous-owned vendors. Friday featured the Sunshine Camp Trail Mix 5K and Beer Fest in Rush to benefit children with disabilities — a new space exhibit opened at RMSC on Friday and will run through May 3. News 10

- ➤ TYKEs will present The Wizard of Oz at the JCC with an 11 a.m. performance today and a second show at 2 p.m. Sunday, October 19 + featuring Raine Higa as the Tin Man and Caroline Meyers as Glinda. ABC 13
- ➤ The RPO will hold a Beethoven Festival featuring 12 masterpieces in four concerts at Kodak Hall starting at 7:30 p.m. on Oct 23, Oct 25, Oct 30 and Nov 1—soloists such as Jonathan Biss, Juliana Athayde and Jon Nakamatsu will join the orchestra. Rochester Beacon
- ➤ A full-sized replica of the Seneca Chief retraced the 1825 Erie Canal route from Buffalo to New York City as part of bicentennial celebrations while an Eastern white pine—an enduring Haudenosaunee symbol of peace—was planted in Rochester's Corn Hill neighborhood on Sept. 27. Water collected at each stop is set to irrigate the final tree in New York City on Oct. 25 and 26. Democrat & Chronicle
- ➤ The Paul Antonowicz Quartet – a quintet that met just 20 minutes before its set – will perform live at the Avant Garde A Clue Festival at 5 p.m. on Monday, Oct. 20. ABC 13
- ➤ The George Eastman House now hosts the exhibit American, born Hungary: Kertész, Capa, and the Hungarian American Photographic Legacy which shows how Hungarian immigrants helped shape American photography using works by key artists like Capa and Kertész. Curator Alex Nyerges co-curated the display and it will be on view until March 1 — a chance for visitors to see a hidden chapter of art history. Rochester Beacon

- ➤ RG&E’s grid capacity issues—limiting power for new houses and shops—have stalled development in Ontario County as local leaders and utility officials work on regional fixes that depend on state rate approvals. News 10

- ➤ On October 16, RIT hosted a career fair for deaf and hard-of-hearing students and alumni led by NTID during National Disability Employment Awareness Month—more than 20 companies met with job seekers to offer potential employment opportunities. News 10
- ➤ Some Edison High School students will soon see their faces on RTS buses - part of a Positive Behavior Choices Award recognizing good bus riding habits. One side of each bus will show the students' photos - the other side will feature Edison graduate Nicholas Jumpp, winner of the RTS Positive Behavior Essay Contest. News 10
- ➤ Rochester teachers remain unpaid as payroll issues linger from the new system that left about 30 teachers without pay and 573 unresolved problems since July. The Rochester Teachers Association plans to file a lawsuit on Monday and unions said some members are now facing eviction—adding pressure on the district to resolve the problem. ABC 13
- ➤ Wegmans and the University of Rochester have launched a new dining partnership that makes grab-and-go meals available at three campus locations—Hillside Market in Susan B. Anthony Hall, the Pit in Wilson Commons, and the Student Living Center at the Eastman School of Music. UR’s VP of Student Life John Blackshear said the program offers popular items like Latin Chicken Bowl and Ultimate Chocolate Chip Cookies and plans to expand in the future. Democrat & Chronicle
