- ➤ Rochester Rotary Sunshine Camp will host its Trail Mix 5K at 4:30 p.m. — Beer Fest will start at 5 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 17 at 809 5 Points Road in Rush. ABC 13
- ➤ In Rochester, Chayla Marquez, a mother of two, shared her journey on Oct. 8 after enduring 15 months of homelessness following her release from jail—she credited the YWCA for providing safe shelter during hard times. Marquez now focuses on her family and her fashion brand PraviPrints while a report by Partners Ending Homelessness links rising costs to local homelessness—highlighting ongoing community challenges. - ➤ On Monday, Oct. 13, the Jewish Federation of Greater Rochester hosted a gathering at Louis S. Wolk JCC to reflect on the Israel-Hamas peace deal that returned the final hostages in exchange for Palestinian prisoners. Sharon Shafrir from Bring Them Home—after 738 days of work—said the event marks a hopeful start even as others questioned what comes next for the region. ABC 13

- ➤ Angels of Mercy will host a Domestic Violence Awareness walk on Oct. 16 (meeting at 4 p.m. in front of their office at 692 North Winton Road) to honor victims and raise awareness of domestic violence. - ➤ The Gateways Music Fall Festival began Monday in Rochester to celebrate Black classical artistry with performances in partnership with Eastman School of Music. The festival continues until Thursday—tonight at Hatch Recital Hall at 7:30 p.m., Eastman alumnus David Berry will perform. News 10
- ➤ On Monday, Oct. 13, Rochester celebrated Indigenous Peoples Day at Cobb’s Hill Park with music, dancing and crafts—while the Italian American Community Center in Gates held its Columbus Day flag raising and luncheon to honor Italian heritage. ABC 13
- ➤ Little Theatre will celebrate its 96th anniversary on Friday, Oct. 17 — marking nearly a century of preserving cinema and serving the local community. ABC 13
ECONOMY NEWS
- ➤ Next year, the new cruise ship American Patriot will make a stop in Rochester as part of a nine-day Great Lakes cruise that begins in Oswego and visits Clayton, Buffalo and Niagara Falls + passengers will spend a day and a night in Rochester. Four trips are planned from late May to late August with fares starting at $8,675 for this journey. WXXI News

- ➤ Rochester Community University will offer three free financial training sessions to local residents—covering safe banking, family planning, and small business loans—with classes on Oct. 21, Oct. 28, and Nov. 4.
