- ➤ Local leaders and Monroe County Executive Adam Bello honored the 10th anniversary of Rochester Accessible Adventures at the Irondequoit Public Library on Oct. 3—issuing a proclamation that recognized the nonprofit’s work in creating inclusive spaces to enhance recreation and wellness for people with disabilities. - ➤ Community members and local leaders celebrated the opening of The Skramble House of Golf at Perinton Square Mall on Oct. 3, 2025—owners say it is New York's largest indoor facility offering lessons, coaching, and 24/7 access while officials designated a special day for the venue. ABC 13
- ➤ Today, Rochester holds the Hilton Apple Festival from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. featuring apple foods and an auto show at 4 p.m.—along with a Walk to End Alzheimer’s at Innovative Field and a wellness fair at The Center at Greece Town Hall. On Sunday, Italian American Heritage Day at Rochester Public Market runs from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. while International Plaza hosts a Latin American Festival with food, music, and a cook-off from 1 to 6 p.m. News 10
- ➤ Local volunteers built a new playground at the Thomas P. Ryan R-Center on Friday, Oct. 3 to give local children a safe space to play. They worked from 9:00 a.m. for over six hours — using ideas from children’s drawings after months of planning. ABC 13

- ➤ Organizations in Rochester with 35 or more employees can submit nominations for the 13th Top Workplaces award until Nov. 7—winners will be recognized in spring. Democrat & Chronicle
CULTURE NEWS
- ➤ Early music is back in town as Publick Musick starts its season today with its Opus 1 concert at 4 p.m. in Dansville, and Pegasus Early Music will perform Narpana: Mirroring Traditions of Raga and Harmony on Oct. 19 in Rochester—both shows feature shared musicians who blend historical works with fresh sounds. - ➤ The Naples Open Studio Trail event is free and runs today and Oct. 5 along Canandaigua Lake at 13 locations. Eighteen local artists open their studios, galleries, and homes—showing, selling, and sometimes demonstrating their art for visitors using a self-guided tour. Democrat & Chronicle
- ➤ Cugini di Roc is partnering with the City of Rochester to host a family-friendly Italian Heritage Festival at the Public Market on October 5 — the event will celebrate Italian culture and heritage for all ages. ABC 13
- ➤ Taylor Swift released her 12th album, The Life of a Showgirl, on Friday at midnight and local stores—such as Target at Marketplace Drive in Henrietta, which sold exclusive vinyl and CDs—and local businesses offered themed items like Taylor Swift donuts. - ➤ This summer, Frederick Douglass Greater Rochester International Airport recorded its busiest season in over 15 years as almost 743000 passengers traveled using new nonstop routes and improved amenities. Officials said investments in terminals and parking helped push nearly 372000 boarders in the peak months— and the airport will launch nonstop flights to Florida next year. News 10

- ➤ Monroe Community College has launched the Advancing Success in Associate Pathways program—ASAP—to give eligible students academic, financial, and personal support so they can graduate on time. Eligible SUNY students may join ASAP for associate degrees, while those pursuing bachelor’s degrees can access help through the Advancing Completion through Engagement program. News 10

- ➤ RTS now allows riders to pay bus fares by tapping on validators with Apple Pay, Google Pay, or chip-enabled cards—CEO Miguel Velázquez said the new method aims to make boarding easier while cash, bus passes, and smartcards will still be accepted. News 10

- ➤ Several health insurers are cutting Medicare Advantage plans for 2026 as rising healthcare costs force companies like Excellus BlueCross BlueShield to reduce coverage—leaving local seniors, including Bob McMullen who needs his heart medications, to find a new plan during open enrollment from October 15 to December 7.
