- ➤ Yesterday, the Monroe County Sheriff's Office held its fall awards ceremony at the Strong National Museum of Play — honoring deputies Ryan Arnold and Justin Overend with the Meritorious Conduct Award for heroic actions that saved a woman from a fire in Pittsford. ABC 13

- ➤ ESL Federal Credit Union opened a full-service bilingual branch at 835 W Main St in Bull’s Head on Sept 29th. The branch offers 24-hour ATM access and is part of a larger effort to revitalize the neighborhood—bringing convenient banking to local residents and businesses. Democrat & Chronicle

- ➤ On October 1, Connections with Evan Dawson presented the new Rochester Reads selection 'Soil: The Story of a Black Mother's Garden' by Camille Dungy — the show also featured a talk on easing political tensions in local communities. WXXI News
- ➤ Jeff and Joan Beal, celebrated musicians and Eastman School alumni, have made a record-breaking multimillion-dollar donation to fund new programs, scholarships, and facilities at their alma mater. - ➤ Faheem Masood, president and CEO of ESL Credit Union, announced his retirement effective April 1—ending a long career that began in 1991 as the credit union grew its assets and membership. Chief Operating Officer Tom Rogers will replace Masood to help guide the credit union’s future. News 10
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ State officials warn New Yorkers to ignore text scams that claim to send inflation refund checks—no state agency asks for personal information by text, and eligible taxpayers will get their checks automatically by mail starting in October with most arriving by November. Democrat & Chronicle
- ➤ Today, a government shutdown leaves many federal services paused in Rochester and about 750,000 workers impacted. Flights at the Rochester airport continue as air traffic controllers and TSA agents work without pay while VA clinics, national park sites, food assistance programs and Social Security benefits remain active, though some VA offices and federal hiring are halted until funding is restored. - ➤ Village of Victor invites residents and business owners to shape its downtown projects through a survey open until Oct.15 — officials will explain the plan at a public session at 6:30 p.m. on Oct.6 at Village Hall. Democrat & Chronicle
- ➤ Gov. Kathy Hochul’s inflation refund checks are coming for 8.2 million households this week and are not tax-free—New Yorkers will report them on their 2025 income tax returns, which will add hundreds of millions to federal revenue. WXXI News
