CULTURE NEWS

  • Meliora Weekend at the University featured three headliners — bestselling author Lisa Genova, historian Erik Larson, and comedian Trevor Noah — who joined a legacy of notable speakers. Trevor Noah returned to the festival, and the event highlighted distinguished talent as part of the annual celebration.  Campus Times
  • Miracle on 34th Street: The Musical will launch its national tour at Roberts Wesleyan University in Rochester with performances at Hale Auditorium in the Cultural Life Center from Nov. 21 to 23 — the show brings the classic Christmas story to new audiences.  FOX Rochester

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Nazareth University presents Romeo and Juliet at Callahan Theater from Oct. 2 to Oct. 4 with actors CJ Heiskell, Marissa Hennen, and Pascale Tsering performing swordplay in Shakespeare's classic play.  ABC 13
  • University Marketing and Communications is planning a new branding campaign as part of its Boundless Possibility 2030 Strategic Plan and a new logo will be released in coming weeks — a spokesperson said leaked images on Fizz are unverified.  Campus Times

  • At the World Canal Conference in Buffalo, experts noted that Rochester's local improvements received recognition—drawing positive attention to the area.  Democrat & Chronicle

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • City officials announced a series of meetings during the week of Sept. 29 to give residents a chance to get involved with local plans—details on times and agendas will be shared soon.  Democrat & Chronicle
  • Rochester residents can share their concerns at a public hearing today at City Hall at 1:00 p.m. and 6:00 p.m. over RG&E and NYSEG's proposals—these hikes may raise monthly bills by about $52 and $67 respectively.  WXXI News

HEALTH NEWS

  • The Breast Cancer Project will launch its book 'You Are Whole' featuring Rochester survivors — the team will hold a launch party from 4 to 6 p.m. on Oct. 1 at RIT Tate Preserve to mark Breast Cancer Awareness Month.  ABC 13
  • New York State Academic Dental Centers launched its fellowship in 2018 to help dental grads treat patients with intellectual and developmental disabilities. The fully state-funded program places fellows at centers like the Eastman Institute for Oral Health where they earn a steady salary and gain clinical training—helping ease dental care shortages amid Medicaid cuts.  Rochester Beacon

  • On Monday, National Coffee Day brought deals to Rochester as Albunn Coffee House offered 25% off espresso drinks in the East End, Elvio’s Coffee Shop provided a free drip coffee with any food purchase, Layali Coffee House in Henrietta cut drink prices by 50%, and AM:FM Coffee Cocktails Vinyl featured buy one, get one half off—each deal celebrating local coffee culture.  News 10

  • In 1995, Oak Hill Country Club in Pittsford hosted the Ryder Cup where Team Europe beat Team USA by a score of 141½ to 131½—one of their few wins on U.S. soil. The event featured top players like Phil Mickelson, Fred Couples, Sir Nick Faldo and Lanny Wadkins.  News 10
