- ➤ Tomorrow, Midlakes FFA will host a Harvest Festival from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. featuring a Mobile Dairy Experience where visitors can meet a local dairy farmer and pet a live calf—local vendors and community groups will also showcase fresh produce and farm goods at the event. Democrat & Chronicle
- ➤ On Thursday, UR Medicine Thompson Health held a job fair at the F.F. Thompson Hospital cafeteria from 2 to 5 p.m. where hiring managers interviewed candidates — the Frederick Douglass HBCU Classic expo ran from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Blue Cross Arena and free car seat safety checks took place at Seymour Public Library in Brockport from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. News 10

- ➤ Artists Unlimited opened Studio 44 on Dewey Avenue to give people with intellectual and developmental disabilities a professional space for musical rehearsals—founders Ed and Debbie Schram said a performance of Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat is set for early November. News 10
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Unions rallied outside the RCSD Central Office on West Broad Street at 4 p.m. on Thursday in response to payroll errors that have troubled over 6,000 employees since the district switched from PeopleSoft to Oracle on July 2 — union leaders said the new system led to inaccurate paycheck deductions and delays. Leaders noted they worked with Superintendent Eric Jay Rosser but demanded further action to correct the issue. Democrat & Chronicle
- ➤ Rochester’s only bilingual K-12 charter school, Eugenio María de Hostos School, celebrated its 25th anniversary on Sept. 25th—holding a gala at La Luna on Browns Race from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m.—marking a milestone in its history. ABC 13
- ➤ ROC Your Job program, run by RochesterWorks and the Monroe County Department of Human Services, returned for a second year after connecting 451 local teens with after-school jobs last school year. RochesterWorks will begin placing new participants on Oct. 1 and the program will run until June 30 — the effort targets youth ages 14 to 20 with priority for families at or below 200% of the federal poverty level. - ➤ Mayor Malik Evans launched the City of Rochester Pillars of Hope Program at City Hall today by welcoming local African American and Hispanic professionals to serve as role models for students in the Rochester City School District. The volunteers will share their personal experiences in education, work, and life to help guide and inspire young learners. City of Rochester

- ➤ The Alzheimer’s Association will host its annual Walk to End Alzheimer’s on Oct. 4 at Innovative Field, where opening ceremonies will begin at 10:00 a.m. and the walk will start at 10:15 a.m. Local fundraising team Sandi’s Sunshine—led by Rene Ess in honor of her mother who died from Alzheimer’s in March—has raised over $35,000 and is among the top 100 fundraisers nationwide. - ➤ Rochester city council approved the sale of seven lots in Marketview Heights to Cook Properties, which will build nine modular houses to offer lower-cost home options—houses that are expected to be built in about 60 days and hit the market in early 2026 while the city ends its involvement after the sale. SPORTS NEWS
- ➤ The 45th Ryder Cup is taking place today at Bethpage State Park with gates opening at 5 a.m.—team rosters have been set and the match schedule will continue through Sunday. This is the first time the tournament has been held at this Long Island course—joining Oak Hill in Pittsford as the only New York courses to host—with Team USA facing Team Europe. - ➤ Faber Builders presented Section V Athletes of the Week for September 15-21 by naming Penfield junior Zane Kropman, Penfield senior Teaghan Shores and Livonia soccer player Gavyn Phillips who received over 15,000, 9,000 and 6,000 votes respectively. Kropman rushed 37 times for 187 yards with two touchdowns in a 21-0 win at McQuaid while Shores won the varsity large schools girls John Izzo Cross Country Classic at Letchworth and Phillips scored the golden goal in overtime as Livonia won 1-0 against Avon. - ➤ On Sept. 22—24, 1995, Rochester hosted the Ryder Cup at Oak Hill Country Club in Pittsford where Europe narrowly beat the U.S. amid protests and stormy weather—drawing global attention and marking a proud chapter in the city's history. Democrat & Chronicle
- ➤ The Bills will play the Saints on Sunday, Sept. 28 at 1 p.m. at Highmark Stadium as the team looks back at last week's unusual blocked field goals to improve special teams play. Fans in Rochester can watch the game on CBS local channels & note that betting lines show the Bills as 16.5-point favorites with an over-under of 47.5. Democrat & Chronicle
