- ➤ Golfers took part in the charity tournament on Monday at Ravenwood Golf Club in Victor to support Villa of Hope — a group that helps kids and families with mental and behavioral health challenges. The funds raised will support access to vital services. News 10

- ➤ On September 23rd, local saucemaker Guglielmo Sauce repurposed damaged tomatoes that could not be delivered to grocery stores by turning them into an upcycled sauce—saving food that would have been wasted. A visit to Craft Cannery showed how this process gives new life to tomatoes otherwise discarded. ABC 13

- ➤ A winning Take 5 ticket for $30,180.50 was sold at Wegmans in Perinton for Monday's evening drawing, and the New York Lottery announced Tuesday that the winner's identity remains unknown — officials encourage future players to check their tickets carefully. ABC 13
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ U.S. News & World Report released its 2025 rankings and many Rochester-area universities ranked high. The University of Rochester ranked #46 for best national universities while RIT and St. John Fisher University earned #88 and #192 respectively, and SUNY Geneseo ranked #5 for best public universities as UR, Nazareth, RIT, Brockport and Fisher ranked well for best value. - ➤ The Eastman School of Music has received a historic multimillion-dollar gift from alumni Joan and Jeff Beal, the largest contribution since the school was founded. The funds will expand the Beal Institute for Film Composition and Contemporary Media and support new scholarships and academic programs starting fall 2027 + upgrade facilities and technology. - ➤ Monroe County has partnered with Community Broadband Networks to use $4.2 million in American Rescue funds to expand high-speed internet access for residents in select ZIP codes—14604, 14605, 14608, 14611, 14613, 14614 and 14621. The program offers free installations and WiFi routers—ensuring affordable connectivity for education, employment and health. Rochester Beacon
- ➤ Lawmakers, activists, and union leaders gathered Tuesday morning at Assemblyman Demond Meeks' office in Rochester to urge Gov. Kathy Hochul to sign bills in the Prison Omnibus Package that address violence in prisons—measures such as installing fixed cameras and requiring staff to notify families within 24 hours of an inmate’s death. The meeting follows a bodycam video showing guards beating a Greece man at Marcy Correctional Facility—an incident that led to his death in the hospital. News 10
