  • After Brindle Haus closed, local residents joined forces and opened Bones & Barley Brewing Co. in the same Spencerport spot to preserve a favorite gathering place, and the brewpub will host Oktoberfest weekend with German food, music and treats from a new food neighbor. This community effort keeps a beloved hangout thriving with family fun and a dog-friendly vibe.  Democrat & Chronicle
  • Ruth’s Restoration, a safe home for women, held its first fundraiser at the Strathallan Hotel on East Avenue Thursday night—September 11th—raising money to help women come back to society after jail and overcome addiction. Executive director Cheryll Brown said the money will support a plan to open a second home for more women in crisis.  News 10
  • Casa Larga Vineyards and Winery will host its 29th Purple Foot Festival on Sunday, Sept. 14 from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. The family-friendly event offers new attractions such as a Purple End Zone for Bills fans, a Diaper Dash for toddlers, an animal menagerie, vineyard rides, wine tastings, and expanded food and beverage options—wine slushies included.  Rochester Beacon
  • Robin Glenski, president of 19th Ward Community Cats, feeds several cat colonies daily in a trap-neuter-vaccinate-and-return program to keep the neighborhood's cats healthy.  Democrat & Chronicle

CULTURE NEWS

  • The National Susan B. Anthony Museum and House will soon offer on-demand American Sign Language interpreting using a locally developed AI tool called Sign-Speak—boosting accessibility for deaf guests. Museum staff begin training next Wednesday before the platform is rolled out.  WXXI News
  • The first-ever conference on BIPOC Game Studies began Friday at the Strong National Museum of Play and will run until Sunday—co-hosted by Rochester Institute of Technology and the University of Miami to highlight contributions from Black, Indigenous, and people of color in gaming.  News 10
  • Rochester Broadway Theatre League will unveil a new accessible rear entrance and renovated corridor at West Herr Performing Arts Center on September 15 as part of its PROJECT RESTOURATION initiative—work on the front entrance will finish by October. Board chair Arnie Rothschild and local leaders say the upgrades will make the theater more welcoming for all.  Democrat & Chronicle
  • 16 of Western New York’s top craft cideries will gather in Rochester today at Radio Social on Carlson Road for the second annual New York Cider Festival — running from 11 to 3, the event highlights local flavors with chances to sip and sample.  ABC 13

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Spencerport High School and Cosgrove Middle School ended a 13-minute lockout on Friday morning after security and the Ogden Police Department addressed an isolated threat at the high school—classes resumed normally shortly after.  News 10

HEALTH NEWS

  • Monroe County Medical Examiner Dr. Marielena Velez de Brown released her 2024 report showing a 43% drop in opioid and cocaine overdose deaths, with 292 deaths recorded compared to 512 in 2023—75% of the cases involved men and the report highlighted differences in how Black and Hispanic communities were affected. She said the decline may be linked to better awareness, more naloxone access, and improved outreach to treatment providers.  News 10
