- ➤ Residents of Rochester are voting in the 2025 Community’s Choice Awards to decide winners among 420 local firms nominated in 140 categories—votes must be cast by Sept. 22 and winners will be honored at a gala on Dec. 10 at the Joseph A. - ➤ Today, Rochester hosts several events including the 14th annual Fringe Festival with hundreds of shows through Sept. 20, a free outdoor screening of Wicked, and an AI theatre experiment at School of the Arts at 6 p.m. On Saturday and Sunday, Comic Con offers cosplay contests and guest appearances while the East End will host a Bills block party on Sunday featuring big screens, music and merch donations — adding a festive mix of arts and sports to the weekend. - ➤ Ruth's Restoration Place held its first fundraiser at the Strathallan Hotel on Sept. 11 to raise funds for a faith-based transitional home for women recovering from crises. - ➤ On Wednesday, Sept. 10th, a crash on Atlantic Avenue in Penfield killed Sharon Shearer when her car veered off a narrow curve and hit a utility pole—burning debris was seen—and her son Garrett urged town leaders and the state Department of Transportation to add safety measures while residents search for a missing cat and recall a similar fatal crash ten months ago. - ➤ The Fringe Festival will present The Lost World Bemshi! on Saturday, Sept. 13 at 3:30 p.m. at MuCCC—reimagining the 1925 film 'The Lost World' as a multimedia event that blends film, theater and music to celebrate its 100th anniversary. ABC 13
- ➤ Three drag queens — Mrs. Kasha Davis, Darienne Lake and Pandora Boxx — will compete for the title of Rochester Drag Queen in the special show 'Drag Me Home' during Week Two of the Fringe Festival. The event will be held Monday, Sept. 15 at Spiegeltent with doors opening at 6:45 p.m. and the show starting at 7:30 p.m. ABC 13
- ➤ Today, Rochester Fringe Festival presents the improv show Misery Loves Company at the School of the Arts' Black Box Theatre at 5:30 p.m.—a playful twist on Stephen King's horror classic Misery by Joe Liss and Dee Ryan with a second performance scheduled on Sept. 14 at 6 p.m. ABC 13
- ➤ Consultants working with Irondequoit have identified six potential historic districts—White City, Sea Breeze, Laurelton, and the St. Paul Corridor are among them—based on a report funded by a state grant.
