COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Rochester's inaugural Railroad Street Festival took place on Sunday, Sept. 7 and featured food, live music, arts and crafts vendors, and children’s activities—while local artist Shawn Dunwoody painted a mural celebrating his hometown history in the Public Market District.  ABC 13
  • Area firefighters and community members gathered at Innovative Field Sunday morning, Sept. 7 to honor 343 fallen firefighters through the annual Memorial Stair Climb and Family Walk. A retired FDNY member and a current responder from the Twin Towers spoke on behalf of the heroes—bringing local tribute to a national loss from Sept. 11, 2001.  ABC 13

CRIME NEWS

  • The Monroe County Sheriff's Office is asking the public for help to locate Crystal Davis, 38, of Henrietta who was last seen at her residence on Sept. 5 around 8:30 p.m. wearing a black tank top and red, white, and black camouflage pants—she is 5-foot-9, weighs about 230 pounds, and has black hair and brown eyes.  News 10

CULTURE NEWS

  • The Memorial Art Gallery in Rochester announced winners from the M&T Bank Clothesline Art Festival held Sept. 6 and 7, including Susie Taylor for fiber art, Mark and Sharon Diebolt for wood art, and Daniel Fox for painting. Thomas Ciminelli received the first time exhibitor award while Unique Fair-Smith and Justin Winters won the creative excellence award, celebrating the festival focus on local art.  News 10
  • The 2025 ESL Rochester Fringe Festival will run from Tuesday, Sept. 9 until Saturday, Sept. 20 at One Fringe Place on Main — Gibbs, offering over 250 shows and 650 performances with many free events, food trucks, and kid-friendly activities. Festival organizers are working with local disability rights groups to ensure easy access while comedian Chelsea Handler is set to headline the event.  Democrat & Chronicle

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Local town leaders in Hamlin, Brighton, and Henrietta have applied for state grant money to build or upgrade community centers that will improve meeting spaces and replace rundown facilities—decisions on the grants are expected by November.  WXXI News

HEALTH NEWS

  • Monroe Community Hospital is renovating its pediatric unit with a $10 million state grant plus updating the ventilator area and playground while increasing the beds from five to at least twenty for children with complex needs. The project will be completed by next summer to improve local health care services.  WXXI News

  • Members of Bills Mafia gathered at Ziggy’s on Railroad Street today to watch the season opener as a packed bar—providing both indoor and outdoor seating—buzzed with local excitement after last season's playoff loss.  News 10
