  • The annual 9/11 tribute concert honored first responders, veterans and active military with five bands performing over two days at Ontario Beach Park—Saturday’s show benefited Honor Flight Rochester entirely.  ABC 13

ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • Two lacrosse players, one a former Rochester Jr. Knighthawk, died in a car crash Friday night in Milwaukee—police said a 41-year-old driver collided with their vehicle and teammates were taken to the hospital for injuries.  News 10

CRIME NEWS

  • New York State Police are searching for 37-year-old Jered Proctor, last seen leaving his house on State Route 245 in Seneca on Sept 3, and he may be in Rochester traveling in a white 2011 Chevrolet Aveo — anyone with information is urged to call 911.  ABC 13

EDUCATION NEWS

  • The annual WalletHub ranking placed New York in the top 10 for public school systems, with the state earning 7th in quality and 20th in safety — credited to high per-pupil spending and a low student-teacher ratio. The results mark a slight drop from last year — showing that strategic investments are needed to improve school quality.  Democrat & Chronicle

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Rochester will start a program in 2026 to open savings accounts for each kindergartner using a $50,000 grant from Canandaigua National Bank and $244,000 from ESL Federal Credit Union, with each child receiving $50 as seed money and an extra $100 if their family is low income. The city will hold the accounts until the children finish high school — and families may request to withdraw their own deposits in emergencies — a plan designed to boost financial skills.  WXXI News

  • Faith leaders and healthcare professionals hosted a prostate cancer awareness event at the Church of Love Faith Center in Rochester yesterday—over 100 men received education and PSA screenings—and they stressed the importance of early detection, especially in African American communities.  ABC 13
