COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Communities from Lima and Honeoye Falls gathered Saturday at Elim Life Church to honor Jonathan Stills, who died in a car crash on Aug 27 in Canandaigua—he served as a Lima EMS member, school bus driver, village board trustee and nonprofit leader. A GoFundMe for his family has raised over $136,000.  News 10
  • Residents gathered in Perinton for the Flutie 5K for Autism on Aug. 31 to support efforts for autism services. Participants ran, walked, or rolled to raise funds for therapy—programs that promote autism acceptance.  ABC 13
  • City officials began renovating Maplewood Park last week to convert a repurposed building into a nature center and add an inclusive playground, new trails, a teaching garden, and a bus drop-off point—work funded by over $11 million is expected to finish by May.  WXXI News

CRIME NEWS

  • Two Rochester men were hospitalized after separate stabbing incidents—one a 33-year-old who suffered a minor arm wound on Evergreen Street after an alleged attack that included a $30 loss, and the other a 23-year-old who received a non-life-threatening leg injury near Kelly Street.  ABC 13

CULTURE NEWS

  • Construction began Aug. 31 for the 2025 Rochester Fringe Festival as workers set up the Speigeltent – home to favorites like Crique Du Fringe and Drag Me Home – while the festival will begin on Sept. 9 and run through Sept. 20; funds raised over the past year secured the area for the event.  ABC 13

  • The Finger Lakes Rail Experience will soon launch the new Cayuga Leaf Limited train ride departing from Waterloo that gives guests a 90-minute view of the region's fall colors this fall — tickets will go on sale Sept. 3 with prices between $45 and $100.  Democrat & Chronicle
