  • Rochester stepdaughter Keyanna Richards (31) is charged with second-degree murder after she stabbed her stepfather, Gary Morgan (49), multiple times near Dewey and Driving Park avenues on Aug. 27 during an argument over stolen items; she was taken into custody on Aug. 28 and faces outstanding burglary warrants in Florida and Illinois.  Democrat & Chronicle
  • Rochester man Davonte Lippens pleaded guilty to a weapons charge on Thursday—guns were recovered from nearby houses in connection with the 2022 Airbnb homicide that killed 24-year-old Jahkeem Douglas and injured four others.  NewsRadio WHAM
  • State police have increased patrols for the Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over campaign to target impaired drivers during Labor Day; last year more than 20,000 tickets were issued—authorities urge drivers to plan ahead by using the Have a Plan app for safe travel.  NewsRadio WHAM
  • A Livingston County man pleaded not guilty to murder and federal charges in a Monroe County court on Friday after police linked him to the fatal altercation on August 9th in Rochester that left Luis Leon, 28, dead and his body concealed and dumped on Route 17 in Salamanca — Leon’s family vows to pursue justice as the investigation continues.  ABC 13

  • Two historic schooners, When & If and Liberty Clipper, have returned to the Port of Rochester and will offer sailing trips through Sept. 1 while Chris Lopez tests their seaworthiness to ensure passenger safety.  FOX Rochester

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • City of Rochester is asking residents to review and comment on the 2024—25 Consolidated Annual Performance and Evaluation Report that shows how HUD funds were used in city programs and projects. The public can send feedback from Aug. 29 until Sept. 13 by 5 p.m. at City Hall.  City of Rochester

HEALTH NEWS

  • Caitlin Bradley from Rochester Regional Health said on Friday at Penn Fair Pediatrics in Penfield that students and parents are facing stress about back-to-school challenges like making friends, handling harder classes, and rising school supply costs—she added that the hospital offers clinics, embedded school therapists, and other programs to help families cope. The support comes as the new school year approaches amid concerns over recent school incidents and daily pressures.  ABC 13
