- ➤ A Rochester man was hospitalized last night after a hit-and-run at Avenue D and Joseph Avenue—police say the driver fled and he is expected to recover. NewsRadio WHAM
- ➤ On Aug. 11 a deputy was injured when Rochester man Chaz Davis fled during a stolen vehicle investigation at an auto dealer in Farmington—Davis now faces charges for assault and grand larceny while two others charged with grand larceny were arraigned and later released after two recovered vehicles valued at over $100,000 were found and the injured deputy returned to work. - ➤ Canandaigua police are searching for 15-year-old Jazmine Snyder, who was last seen at 10 p.m. Tuesday in Canandaigua and tracked by her cellphone near LeMoyne College on Thursday morning; she is 5 feet tall and 150 pounds with dark brown hair wearing a pink sweatshirt and black sweatpants, and anyone with tips should call the 911 center (585-394-4560). - ➤ Perinton officials removed at least 45 cats from a home on Kreag Road today after neighbors complained about a bad smell—Town Supervisor Ciaran Hanna noted the town took quick action following a similar rescue in January 2021—and the animals are now receiving care from the Humane Society of Greater Rochester while the investigation continues. - ➤ Monroe Community College welcomed new students yesterday after a decade of decline, marking its fifth year of enrollment growth—over 9,000 incoming students and plans to exceed 24,000 for the 2025-26 school year. - ➤ The Boys & Girls Club of Rochester held a ceremony Wednesday awarding scholarships to over 30 students for college or private school, selecting them based on their character, community service, and membership duration. - ➤ Today, Foodlink and local hospital leaders warn that federal changes under the One Big Beautiful Bill Act will cut SNAP and Medicaid funding — the new rules will put nearly 1.5 million people at risk of losing food assistance and health care, including many in Rochester. Rochester Beacon
- ➤ The new emergency veterinary clinic in East Rochester treated nearly 1,400 patients in July—the busiest month since it opened in March—and has seen almost 5,000 animal visits overall.
