BUSINESS NEWS

  • Monroe County officials are optimistic that work will restart on the unfinished battery recycling hub in Greece under Glencore's new ownership. Glencore will assume Li-Cycle agreements with the county, including a promise to create 100 full-time jobs—though the hub still needs a $475 million Department of Energy loan and extra investments to be finished.  WXXI News

CRIME NEWS

  • A 24-year-old man, Anthony Robinson, was charged with second-degree murder after he fatally shot apartment resident Roger Coley on Niagara Street during a fight on Aug. 1—he was arrested by U.S. Marshals on Glenwood Avenue Monday and is scheduled to be arraigned today on multiple charges.  ABC 13

EDUCATION NEWS

  • RIT welcomed its newest Tigers Monday as first-year and transfer students arrived from across the U.S. & other countries, while families watched boxes move and felt emotional on campus.  FOX Rochester
  • About 150 teachers did not get their summer pay and the Rochester Teacher Association has offered an interest-free loan of up to $2,000 for one year for those in need + the district is fixing problems with its new payroll system. The union will meet with the district superintendent on Wednesday to set a plan before school starts with the first payday on Sept. 5 + teachers in hardship are urged to use the option.  News 10

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • After a unanimous vote on Monday, Aug.18th, the Fishers Fire District will dissolve on Oct.1 as the board cited future financial instability from a tax levy expected to triple and rising benefits costs — a decision that sparked public outcry with critics warning the move could slow emergency response and threaten firefighters' jobs. Fire Chief Michael Koch described the decision as heartbreaking while community members raised concerns over the impact on public safety.  ABC 13

  • News10NBC's investigation shows that a DOH report on Waterview Heights Nursing Center in Charlotte revealed serious neglect as residents like #158 suffered unsanitary conditions—legislator Josh Jensen urged the state to take control of the facility to ensure proper care.  News 10
