ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • Firefighters battled a fire at two neighboring houses on Petrel Street—off Fulton Avenue—Friday morning, and no injuries were reported while the cause remains under investigation.  News 10

CRIME NEWS

  • Rochester police said 48-year-old Lavar McKnight was shot last night on Weyl Street after he pistol-whipped a man and ignored orders to drop his gun—both he and the man he attacked are now out of the hospital and McKnight faces three gun crime charges.  NewsRadio WHAM
  • A Rochester man was hospitalized after being slashed in the abdomen at a home on Selye Terrace, just off Dewey Avenue in Maplewood—police report the 53-year-old victim is expected to survive while the suspect remains at large.  NewsRadio WHAM
  • Police said a woman in her 30s was fatally stabbed and a man in his 20s was shot during an argument on Spencer Street in northwest Rochester on Aug. 14 around 9:30 p.m.—emergency responders took them to Strong Memorial Hospital where the woman was pronounced dead and the man remains in critical condition.  Democrat & Chronicle
  • On August 14, two men were hospitalized after an armed confrontation on Weyl Street left one man shot by a police officer when officers responded to a stolen vehicle call near Joseph Avenue and entered a backyard, where they recovered a handgun + narcotics as the investigation continued.  Democrat & Chronicle

  • Rylie Wallace and Jeff Wallace—father and daughter—launched a new card game called Kittens in Space on August 15th in partnership with ARC Rochester and explained its rules and story. They invited local gamers to discover their creative project.  ABC 13
  • Reggae band iGNiTE will perform at the Ribs & Rhythm festival at MLK Square Park today— the two-day event runs from 12 to 8 and features plans from organizer Edwin Spencer and performer Keenan Springer.  FOX Rochester

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • New York State said it will mail paper inflation refund checks in mid-October to taxpayers who filed their 2023 returns. The checks will be sent to the address on file and will range from $150—$400 based on filing status and income.  News 10
