- ➤ Community leaders held a press conference Thursday, Aug. 14 to introduce MyWayFinder—an online platform that helps families access essential services like food, job training, and rent assistance. Since its soft launch, over 28,000 visitors have used the tool and more than 160,000 resource searches have been recorded as officials plan future improvements. ABC 13

- ➤ Rochester police have investigated a homicide in the Edgerton neighborhood where a man in his 20s stabbed a woman in her 30s at around 9:30 p.m. last night on Spencer Street between Lake and North Plymouth avenues—someone then intervened and shot the man, leaving him in critical condition while the woman died at Strong Hospital. - ➤ Three Rochester men, Lamarious Bradley, Lucius Bradley, and Chad Brown, were charged with mail theft, unlawful possession of USPS mailbox keys, and conspiracy to commit bank fraud after federal investigators linked them to a months-long theft ring that used stolen keys in towns including Irondequoit + Brighton and executed search warrants that recovered money orders, checks and evidence, while Chad Brown remains in police custody. - ➤ Monroe County deputies have asked for help finding Cheryl Martin, a 69-year-old Churchville resident last seen on Thursday around 8 p.m. driving her 2015 gray Buick sedan on the Thruway near Akron—she may need medical attention. News 10

- ➤ The Fairport Music Festival will run from Aug. 22 to Aug. 24 and feature over 60 bands performing on multiple stages—tickets cost $30 for adults with free admission for children under 12, and parking with shuttle service will be available. - ➤ A new school year brings a statewide ban on smartphones in K-12 schools and the state launched a website that shows each district's plan for keeping devices out of classrooms—more than 1,000 districts, including Rochester City School District, have updated their rules to help students concentrate on learning. HEALTH NEWS
- ➤ Two local runners, Charlie Ruff from Brighton and Jake Metzger from Penfield, will head to Oregon on Aug. 16 to compete in the Oregon Cascades 100, a 100-mile race they are using as a fundraiser for Parkinson’s disease & the Parkinson’s Foundation. They have raised over $20,000 and will complete the 32-hour course on Aug. 23. News 10
