ACCIDENTS NEWS
- ➤ Tuesday, Rochester firefighters treated five for burns and heat stress as they battled a four-alarm townhome fire on Dewey Avenue and responded to a fire call at a summer art camp on West Avenue—16 people lost their homes, 10 were hospitalized, and four refugee families were displaced. News 10
- ➤ On Aug. 1, the NTSB released its report on a deadly Piper J5C Cub Cruiser crash in Maplewood—where a pilot who had removed wasp nests from the wings lost engine power and attempted a forced landing on Bridge View Drive that caused the plane to hit a tree, killing 80-year-old Thomas Stewart and seriously injuring the pilot. BUSINESS NEWS
- ➤ Two airlines are set to launch new nonstop flights from Frederick Douglass Greater Rochester International Airport to Sarasota and several North Carolina cities. Allegiant will begin service to Sarasota on Feb. 13, 2026 while Avelo adds flights to Charlotte and Raleigh on Sept. 12 and resumes service to Lakeland on Oct. 10 — offering Rochester residents more travel choices. - ➤ The Mall at Greece Ridge began as two separate malls that Wilmorite merged, growing into a 1.6-million-foot complex with more than 100 stores—this fall, it will welcome a 175,000-foot Boscov’s department store to replace the closed Macy’s. Democrat & Chronicle
- ➤ Kodak warned investors that its mounting debt could affect operations and stirred worry in Rochester as the historic film company faced fresh challenges ahead. Jim Brennan of Scott's Rochester Photo Supply said he observed growing demand for Kodak film and hopes the company can overcome this rough patch & sustain its legacy. ABC 13

- ➤ David Johnson from Rochester set his wife on fire at his Augustine Street home in August 2019 and fled to Uganda—he was arrested in November 2024 and sentenced to 12 years in prison. ABC 13

- ➤ The Rochester Housing Authority cut the ribbon on the Bond Hamilton Townhouses on August 11—providing six affordable, ADA accessible units in the South Wedge neighborhood—and the project is part of its plan to improve public housing. ABC 13
