  • The Corn Hill neighborhood watch formed in the 1970s after police budget cuts to help keep streets safe through PACTAC—Police and Citizens Together Against Crime, training volunteers to walk the beat and alert authorities in emergencies. Leaders say that although membership is dropping as older generations retire, the program still works closely with local police using radios and marked gear to deter crime.  Spectrum News
  • On Saturday morning, Zy’Jae Saint Pierre’s family honored his memory by joining the annual Carifest Parade at MLK Jr. Memorial Park to raise awareness about the search following his fall from the Andrews Street Bridge into the Genesee River on June 1—dressed in red to reflect his love for Paw Patrol and Jamaican heritage.  News 10

ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • Joseph Meli, a 39-year-old Batavia man, died when he hit an SUV in a head-on crash on Route 33 in Bergen just before 12:30 p.m. Friday while trying to pass another car, and four North Chili residents were hospitalized — Mari, 32, and Paul Hamilton, 35 were seriously injured while two children are expected to be okay.  News 10

CULTURE NEWS

  • On August 9, Carifest celebrated its 39th year in Rochester with a lively parade featuring dancers, musicians and colorful floats — organized by the Rochester West Indian Festival Organization. The event brought a vibrant display of Caribbean culture to West Main Street and attracted a large crowd.  Democrat & Chronicle
  • On Aug.8, the Hoochenanny Whiskey & Music Festival kicked off at Camp Eastman near Durand-Eastman Park in Irondequoit—showcasing live music, whiskey tastings and performances by acts such as The Old 97s and Charles Wesley Godwin.
