  • Community members and local activists attended Citizens Action of New York's Economic Justice Committee Forum at Immanuel Baptist Church on Tuesday, August 5 to discuss poverty and propose measures like a living wage, rent stability, and a public bank — tools to reinvest in vulnerable communities. The forum aimed to mobilize residents to support local legislation amid rising challenges highlighted by a recent state report — urging collective action in Rochester.  ABC 13

ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • A dirt bike rider was seriously injured after riding the wrong way on West Ridge Road in Greece and colliding head-on with another vehicle on Wednesday morning—he was taken to Strong Memorial Hospital, is now stable, and will face multiple charges.  ABC 13
  • A University of Rochester employee died in a workplace accident in western Massachusetts when a dolly rolled and hit her while she moved stage platforms at a summer dance festival, and officials ruled the death accidental.  ABC 13

  • A Burlington store will open this fall at Culver Ridge Plaza in Irondequoit — the new location will feature a reimagined layout with a new logo and offer top brands at up to 60% off, increasing Burlington's presence to 73 stores in New York.  News 10

CRIME NEWS

  • On June 27, Rochester Police were called after a mini-bike rider was hit by a car on Locust Street—neighbors shouted at officers and the incident led to the arrest of an 18-year-old for menacing and resisting arrest and a 24-year-old for obstructing police and resisting arrest.  News 10
  • At 10 a.m. Tuesday, surveillance video from Cafe Sasso on Park Ave showed the owner confronting Oleksandr Levytskyy—previously arrested for a similar incident—as he harassed a barista, threw soda on paintings, and police later arrested him on charges of harassment and trespassing.  News 10
  • The Rochester Police Department warned residents to be alert for 29-year-old Oleksandr Levytskyy who was arrested in July for stalking and harassing women at Great Embankment Park and near Cafe Sasso on Park Avenue — he was charged with harassment and trespassing before being released from custody.  ABC 13

CULTURE NEWS

  • The Brockport Arts Festival will run on August 9th and 10th on Main Street from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., featuring live music, visual arts & farmers' markets that promise local appeal. Organizers Kathy Kristansen and Kari Pardun have shared event details, and musician Adam Pienio of GypsyLand previewed his set ahead of the festivities.  ABC 13

HEALTH NEWS

  • Bills safety Damar Hamlin visited Victor on Tuesday at Dick's House of Sport at Eastview Mall to lead a CPR and agility clinic that taught fans lifesaving CPR basics—boosting local emergency preparedness. The event was held with his Chasing M's Foundation, which has helped more than $3 million in CPR training and contributed over $850,000 toward AED purchases.  News 10
