- ➤ Rochester Police say a man in his 30s was fatally shot during an argument inside an apartment on Niagara Street at about 11:45 p.m. on August 1— the Major Crimes Section Homicide Unit is investigating with no suspects in custody. Democrat & Chronicle

- ➤ Yesterday the 55th annual Puerto Rican Festival parade took place on East Main Street—participants proudly showcased Puerto Rican culture by marching from East and Alexander to Parcel 5 where the festival was held, featuring flags, colorful costumes and local dance groups. Democrat & Chronicle

- ➤ The Rochester Board of Education approved a one-year extension to the teacher contract to allow time for talks on a new long-term deal—this move includes a 4% raise and a $2,500 bonus for eligible teachers and is pending a union vote at 4:30 p.m. Friday. RTA President Adam Urbanski said the plan will help keep current teachers and fill vacancies during a shortage. WXXI News
