  • On July 30, local business leaders were celebrated at the 42nd annual Business Person of the Year Awards for their leadership and civic service. Lindsay Connelly of Linden Digital Marketing received the under 25 employees award + Scott Miller of Scott Miller Salon Spa & Store was honored in the more than 25 employees category.  ABC 13
  • Greenlight Networks, a fiber internet provider founded in Henrietta, expanded service to the west side by reaching homes in Hilton, Spencerport, Gates, Greece and Chili. The company now serves 40,000 of 135,000 local homes— and plans to add connectivity to 12,000 more by year’s end.  Rochester First

CULTURE NEWS

  • Rochester's 55th-annual Puerto Rican Festival runs today to August 2 at Parcel 5 and will include a panel discussion on the Puerto Rican Diaspora starting at 3 p.m. on Thursday along with a parade beginning at 11 a.m. on Saturday along East Avenue and Alexander Street. The festival celebrates Latino heritage with reggaetón music, cultural dances, and free admission during select hours while offering paid tickets at other times.  Democrat & Chronicle

EDUCATION NEWS

  • RIT is hosting an AT&T-sponsored game development camp for middle school students from regional districts who are learning to design and code their own games—each student received a new Chromebook, headphones, and school supplies. The program targets underrepresented communities and aims to boost interest in technology throughout the week.  News 10
  • Niagara University and Special Olympics are partnering to change how sports and classrooms include people with disabilities. The program brings disabled high school students into college classes to look at learning barriers and plan new app tools — a step to ensure equal access on campus.  WXXI News

  • Trajector Medical released its 2024 ranking, placing Rochester ninth out of 141 U.S. cities for people with disabilities—highlighting low mortgage costs and solid health care access as key factors—making it one of only three Northeast cities in the top ten.  Democrat & Chronicle
