  • WeTheHobby started in 2021 as a small sports card lounge at 23 Arlington St. and has grown into a global brand offering retail sales, live streaming, and podcast rooms. CEO Zach Stanley said the company now employs nearly 150 people and plans to open another Rochester location within two years + shift its focus to live shopping media and entertainment.  Rochester Beacon

CRIME NEWS

  • Gates police said 25-year-old Wegmans worker J'Mere Ridley-Smith was fatally shot at 4:15 p.m. on July 26 while loading pallets in the warehouse and that colleague Kyshonn Green fled but was later arrested in Tennessee—he will be extradited for arraignment once charges are determined after discussions with the district attorney.  Democrat & Chronicle
  • Police reported that a Wegmans employee fatally shot a co-worker inside the Brooks Avenue warehouse on July 26 and fled before U.S. Marshals arrested him in Tennessee on Sunday—he now faces charges in Gates.  ABC 13
  • Monday marked one year since the Maplewood Park mass shooting that killed two—one being city worker Tyasia Manning—and wounded five during a local barbeque as police said at least nine people fired guns while suspect Niger Johnson pleaded not guilty to charges of reckless endangerment and criminal possession of a weapon.  News 10

  • On Monday, July 28, the Strollin' for the Colon team donated $3,000 to the Cancer Services Program of the Finger Lakes Region to buy at-home colon cancer screening kits for uninsured residents. The nonprofit will host its Toni's Race 5k Walk/Run on September 13 at Mendon Ponds Park and aims to boost early detection—supporting local research and education.  ABC 13
