ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • Rochester police and partner agencies are still searching for 5-year-old Zy'Jae Saint Pierre 55 days after he fell from the Andrews Street Bridge into the Genesee River—crews use SCUBA teams on boats between High Falls and Middle Falls and may plan another search under High Falls.  News 10

CRIME NEWS

  • Rochester police charged 24-year-old Leonel Yas Pena with multiple felony counts after a June 14 hit-and-run fatally struck 70-year-old doorman Hank Brown near his East End home—Yas Pena turned himself in on July 24 amid reports he was allegedly intoxicated after leaving a bar.  Democrat & Chronicle
  • One week ago, a 10-year-old boy was shot multiple times in his bedroom on Smith Street in Rochester and survived after officers and EMS provided first aid, but police are still searching for multiple suspects and urge anyone with information to call (585) 423-9300 or (911) immediately.  Rochester First

CULTURE NEWS

  • Chuck Mangione, a famous jazz musician known for his hit song "Feels So Good" and his role on King of the Hill, died in his sleep at his Rochester home on July 22 when he was 84. Many local musicians and city leaders praised his legacy — noting his deep impact on both global jazz and our local music scene.  Democrat & Chronicle

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Crews finished repairs on a water main break at North St. and Portland Avenue after a Wednesday incident, and the road reopened Friday. City manager Justin Johnson (the city’s water official) said repair times depend on factors like pipe age and weather (which can cause water hammer surges) as the team seeks funding for improvements.  News 10

  • A Room to Heal surprised 12-year-old Liza Kimball with a dream bedroom makeover on July 25th. Liza from Penfield had endured over 30 rounds of radiation at Golisano Children's Hospital for her rare cancer and her growing bond with another young patient led the charity to offer this special room.  ABC 13
