ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • Rochester School District said they are heartbroken after 17-year-old Ricardo Carrero Chico—a recent graduate from East Upper School—died in an I-590 crash on July 22 when he lost control of his car and struck two others, injuring three while the district offered counseling to students and is in contact with his family.  News 10

CRIME NEWS

  • The Diocese of Rochester reached a $246M settlement with survivors of clergy sex abuse — including a $120M payment from Continental Insurance Company — as part of its Chapter 11 bankruptcy that began in 2019 following lawsuits under the Child Victims Act.  ABC 13
  • Monroe County sheriff's deputies are looking for 83-year-old Willie Gibson, who was last seen driving a 2021 red Ford SUV near Stratford Park at 10 p.m. Tuesday and on Route 104 in Webster at 3:45 a.m., and he may be disoriented and in need of medical care — anyone with information should call 911.  News 10
  • An 18-year-old was shot near Luther Circle on South Plymouth Avenue Wednesday night + Rochester Police closed Genesee Street and Frost Avenue during the investigation before reopening the roads after the victim was taken to a hospital, and no suspects have been arrested.  News 10
  • Monroe County Sheriff's Office is searching for 83-year-old Willie W. Gibson who was last seen driving his 2021 red Ford SUV with New York license plate KKJ-7734 at Stratford Park on Tuesday at 10pm and then on Route 104 in Webster at 3:45am Wednesday—he may be disoriented and in need of medical attention.  ABC 13
  • A 25-year-old man was stabbed in his upper body on Bay Street near Culver Road shortly before 1 a.m. today (police said he was the aggressor in a domestic incident) and he will face charges for assault and criminal mischief while he is expected to recover.  NewsRadio WHAM

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Environment New York said Charlotte Beach ranked second-worst last summer for fecal contamination—based on samples taken by health departments along Great Lakes and Atlantic beaches. The report noted that all Rochester-area beaches were unsafe on at least one day during the 2024 season and that extra funds were needed to repair sewage plants when heavy rains caused backups.  NewsRadio WHAM

  • Child cancer patient My'Truett Warr celebrated finishing his cancer treatment when he rang a bell at Golisano Children's Hospital on July 23 — after 19 weeks of chemotherapy, his care team and family provided strong support during his battle.
