COMMUNITY NEWS

  • This weekend, Rochester will host several events including the Pride Parade and Festival at Highland Park on Saturday starting at 11 a.m. and Pride celebrations at Water Street Music Hall and a free film screening at The Little Theatre on Friday, while downtown Canandaigua hosts the Art & Music Festival from Friday to Sunday—offering art demos, live music, and vendor displays—and additional local events like the Hemlock Little World’s Fair through Saturday plus a Flea Market Mashup on Sunday.  News 10

CULTURE NEWS

  • The Rochester Pride Parade and Festival will take place on Saturday—beginning at 11 a.m.—as the parade moves from South Ave and Science Parkway to Highland Park with a festival offering food trucks, drinks, games and live music until 6 p.m.  Rochester First

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Rebecca Bryant Novak, a first-year doctoral student with a full scholarship at Eastman School of Music, was expelled after raising concerns about a professor’s hostile behavior and alleged sexual harassment without due process. The Foundation for Individual Rights and Expression sent a letter on June 18—urging her reinstatement as the University of Rochester said it would review the case by the end of July while she files a human rights complaint and considers hiring an attorney.  Rochester Beacon

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Since Abdullahi Muya was found dead in the Highland Park Reservoir in February 2024, city crews have installed new infrared cameras, a dedicated security patrol, and trimmed trees at Highland Park and Cobbs Hill—staff are also being trained and the gates are being upgraded to further prevent unauthorized access.  News 10
  • The state’s Department of Transportation is working to fix an electrical issue that has turned off the northside navigation lights under the Irondequoit Bay Bridge while the southside lights keep working—DOT advised boaters to be careful until the lights are restored.  News 10

HEALTH NEWS

  • Golisano Children’s Hospital celebrated 10 years of its pediatric tower on Thursday with patients, families, and hospital leaders marking over 30,000 surgeries and expanded care, and officials announced plans for a dedicated pediatric emergency department—adding a new chapter in care—while the event ended at 5:30 p.m.  Rochester First
