  • More than 200 groups will join the Rochester Pride Parade on Saturday at 11 a.m., beginning at South Avenue and Science Parkway and continuing to Highland Park where the festival runs until 6 p.m. Attendees should buy $5 tickets ahead of time — to avoid long lines — and note planned street closures, with free parking and a shuttle provided from Monroe Community College.  WXXI News

  • Rochester man Walter Balkum Junior, 49—convicted in April of first-degree manslaughter and assault for beating his girlfriend to death in front of her 9-year-old daughter last summer—received a sentence of 17 years to life in prison.  NewsRadio WHAM
  • Rochester Police identified homeless woman Karen Wargo, 46, who was found dead on a downtown sidewalk just before midnight on July 9 from blunt force trauma and asphyxiation—authorities charged 31-year-old Tavontay Haygood-Session with second-degree murder after he allegedly assaulted her and became aggressive with officers during his 6 a.m. apprehension on July 10.  Democrat & Chronicle

  • Organizers will unveil the full lineup of the 14th annual Rochester Fringe Festival on Wednesday before noon. The festival will run from Tuesday, Sept. 9 to Saturday, Sept. 20 — featuring acts such as comedy, theatre, dance, music, film, magic, and interactive shows.  News 10

  • The Rochester Police Department extended its maximum age limit for applicants to 43 after New York law changed. Applications for the next police exam will be accepted until August 22.  Rochester First
