ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • Rochester Police responded to a vehicle accident on East Avenue near Anson Place Sunday at about 12:15 p.m.—the crash closed off part of the road.  Rochester First
  • Deputies with the Monroe County Sheriff's Office responded to a motor vehicle accident in Perinton on Interstate 490 between the Route 31 exit and the Eastview Mall exit—traffic is shut down in both directions and minor injuries were reported.  Rochester First
  • Today, a serious crash at the intersection of East Avenue and Union Street left two people injured—firefighters rescued one man from an SUV while EMTs treated another and the intersection remains closed.  News 10

CRIME NEWS

  • An 18-year-old was arrested Sunday morning after a domestic dispute led police to investigate reports of gunfire near Murray and Masseth streets and later on Colvin Street in Rochester—officers found no injuries and secured the scene.  ABC 13

CULTURE NEWS

  • Rochester’s 25th annual Ames Amzalak JCC Jewish Film Festival began on Sunday and will run through July 20—even as it showcases 25 feature-length films and three short films from 13 countries at the George Eastman Museum’s Dryden Theatre and the JCC’s Hart Theater. Attendees will join three post-film discussions with filmmakers and enjoy other special events.  ABC 13

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Brooks Avenue—Route 204—from the airport access ramp to Deep Rock Road in Gates will be closed today for pavement work expected to finish by late September, and motorists must follow the detour on Buell Road and State Route 33A while airport ramps remain open.  Rochester First

HEALTH NEWS

  • Emergency room visits for tick bites spiked this summer based on CDC data and New York reported more deer tick bites than last year. Health officials say to wear long clothes, use repellents, and check your skin and pets—using tweezers to remove ticks to prevent infection.  Rochester First
  • Yesterday at Mendon Ponds Park, the 4th Annual Seize the Day: Amer’s Epilepsy Trail Run featured competitive 5K and 10K races plus a one-mile fun run/walk to raise funds for the Epilepsy Alliance of West Central New York and EPI’s services that help 6,000 locals. A 15 year old student, Nyla Armbruster, led the event in honor of her brother.  ABC 13

LIFESTYLE NEWS

  • This summer, locals can enjoy Finger Lakes biking trails on routes such as the Auburn Trail, a nine-mile multi-use path from Pittsford to Farmington open daily from dusk to dawn. Taughannock Falls State Park and the six-mile Catharine Valley Trail near Watkins Glen offer scenic views and expanding trail opportunities (the valley trail will grow to 12 miles once construction is complete).  Democrat & Chronicle
