  • Brighton held its annual Pride celebration on July 11, 2025, with musical performances and a proclamation ceremony—Town Supervisor Bill Moehle said the event shows that diversity makes the town stronger. The Rochester Pride Parade is scheduled for July 19 at 11 a.m. with a march from Science Parkway to Highland Park.  ABC 13
  • Ontario’s Family Festival was held Saturday at Heritage Square Museum — featuring an opening ceremony at 3:30 p.m., pony rides, arts and crafts, games, live music, food, and a silent auction — with parking costing $5 per car.  Rochester First
  • The Fairy Godmothers of Rochester are holding formalwear sales at Marketplace Mall starting Saturday from 10 a.m. to noon — the event features new and gently used women's formalwear with proceeds supporting the organization — and additional sales will be held on August 9 and September 13.  Rochester First

CRIME NEWS

  • Dylan Ghaemi was stabbed on the Indian Hill Trail in Perinton on June 23 when a Palmyra man—Derrick Van Epps—allegedly attacked him after a brief greeting, and Van Epps faces charges of attempted murder and assault as a hate crime while held at Monroe County Jail awaiting arraignment Tuesday.  ABC 13

CULTURE NEWS

  • On Friday night, downtown Rochester held free events when Bands on the Bricks—an event held for over 25 years—started its summer concert series with Latin Night as La Nueva Secuencia, Banda Light, and Tributo a Los 90 played, while Innovative Field held its first ever 'Seinfeld'-themed baseball game. The Rochester Philharmonic Orchestra also gave a free outdoor concert at Parcel 5 by playing famous movie and musical scores.  News 10
  • One Irondequoit artist hosted the Passport to Art event Saturday at The Artists Cave — 4639 Culver Road near Nixon Drive — where community members could view artwork for sale and explore pieces by dozens of local artists.  Rochester First
  • Today at the Dryden Theater in Rochester, the Ames Amzalak JCC Rochester Jewish Film Festival begins its 25th year by showing 25 feature films and three short films from 13 countries—its most international edition in nearly ten years. Organizers said the festival's year-round planning highlights its role in sharing Jewish art and culture with the community.  Rochester First

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Officials are investigating a viral Ring doorbell video taken on July 9 that appears to show a large wild cat, possibly a cougar, roaming a Rochester neighborhood. Experts and DEC officials are checking if the animal escaped from captivity and advise residents to keep a safe distance (experts note the cat’s size and tail differ from a bobcat).  ABC 13
