  • Cleveland held a candlelight vigil on July 4 to honor Webster native Jamieson Ritter—killed in the line of duty on July 4, 2024—while the community marked his legacy with a renamed lodge and a dedicated foundation; his family expressed deep gratitude for the support received.  News 10

ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • A fire broke out around 11:45 p.m. on Friday on Rauber Street in Upper Falls—melting the siding of a two-story home and taking firefighters 20 minutes to control the blaze while the Red Cross assisted two adults and two children displaced by the incident.  News 10
  • Fire crews battled a house fire on Malvern Street near Glendale Park in Edgerton on Saturday evening—thick smoke was seen and the area was taped off.  News 10

EDUCATION NEWS

  • St. John Fisher University will host the Serious Play Conference in August to showcase how play and games will change education and society—more than 120 speakers will present ideas while visitors will enjoy after-hours access to the Strong National Museum of Play and an Esports Summit at RIT’s MAGIC Spell Studios.  WXXI News
  • Rochester City School District is asking for community feedback on its electronic device policy before state restrictions on smartphones take effect this fall—residents can share input by completing a survey and will attend a meeting on Tuesday, July 8 at 5:30 p.m. at the central office on 131 West Broad Street, room 3A/B.  News 10

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Monroe County planned to start construction on the Children's Pavilion in Highland Park this year but high bids delayed work — a $500,000 state grant helped close a key funding gap. County officials will apply for more state grants and the Highland Park Conservancy continues fundraising — aiming to bring the historic project, based on Frederick Law Olmsted’s vision, closer to reality.  WXXI News
  • RG&E will begin utility work this coming week on University Avenue as the road from Culver Road to Granger Place will be closed to traffic from Monday until August 1—residents and businesses will use detours via Culver Road and Oliver Street.  Rochester First
