  • On July 4th, the Genesee Country Village and Museum held its annual Fourth of July celebration that featured a naturalization ceremony where 30 immigrants became U.S. citizens in collaboration with U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services—continuing nearly 30 years of tradition. The museum will hold the ceremony again next year—promising more chances for new citizens.  News 10

ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • On Thursday night, two cars crashed at the East Main + North Goodman intersection; one woman in an SUV and the sedan driver were taken to the hospital with minor injuries while the two children in the SUV were unharmed.  News 10
  • Multiple fire departments battled a garage fire in Greece on July 4th, stopping the flames from reaching a nearby home—no one was hurt and five engines responded in 20 minutes while officials work to determine the cause.  News 10

CRIME NEWS

  • A man is recovering after he was stabbed multiple times on Concord and Wesley streets on the northeast side off North Street—Rochester police arrived at 12:30 a.m. Friday and arrested a 41-year-old woman on assault charges while the 49-year-old victim was taken to Strong Memorial Hospital.  News 10
  • One year ago, Cleveland police officer Jamieson Ritter was fatally shot while responding to an assault call—Monroe County Sheriff Todd Baxter and community leaders honored his memory with memorial events including a candlelight vigil and a newly renamed lodge.  Rochester First

  • The U.S. Coast Guard in Rochester warns boaters on Lake Ontario and the Genesee River to use a designated sober operator and proper equipment during the busy Fourth of July weekend+ penalties for boating under the influence may reach up to $5,000, urging everyone to stay safe on the water.  News 10
