  • Nearly 200 people gathered on Friday, June 27 at the Lewis Street YMCA Neighborhood Center in Rochester—community members and local law enforcement shared food baskets and kites for children as they united against violence.  ABC 13

ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • The Red Cross helped two adults and several children displaced from an apartment complex on Penbrooke Drive that caught fire Thursday night (10:30 p.m.) and left charred sides on two apartments but caused no injuries.  News 10

  • The All In Brass Band performed yesterday at the Rochester Regional Health Big Tent at Main and Gibbs—bringing together young musicians as part of the Jazz Festival and featuring a preview with ARC Rochester.  ABC 13
  • Day 7 of the Rochester International Jazz Festival featured Veronica Swift at Kilbourn Hall—she sang in styles from bebop to opera—and other acts like the Bruce Katz Band and Thundercat drew large crowds. ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Residents in Livingston County experienced repeated flooding when heavy rains three weeks and ten days ago caused about $2.7 million in damage to five road crossovers in Avon. Homeowners in Livonia saw water levels rise dangerously while emergency crews and locals took extra measures to navigate submerged streets + town officials noted that unsettled weather had persisted through May and June.  ABC 13

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • New York will send nearly 3 million residents $2.2 billion in STAR tax relief money this summer and fall, and eligible homeowners will get between $350 and $600 while many seniors will receive between $700 and $1,500. Rochester residents are expected to get their checks between the end of June and mid-July, while those in Penfield, Webster, Gates-Chili, and Rush-Henrietta may see theirs later.  Rochester First

HEALTH NEWS

  • Livingston County Health issued an advisory for Conesus Lake, noting localized blue-green algae blooms at Vitale Park and the southeast shore and warning people and pets to avoid water near the blooms—while the public water supply remains safe for drinking.  Democrat & Chronicle
