  • Rochester Animal Services is hosting a $15 dog adoption event this weekend on Saturday June 28 and Sunday June 29, offering spay/neuter surgery, vaccinations, microchipping plus more to help pets find furever homes. Starting Monday, July 7, RAS Animal Control Officers will extend their hours to 9 a.m. + 7 p.m., while adoption hours remain from 12 noon + 4 p.m.  City of Rochester
  • Six local kids won the Rochester Public Library’s Teen Sticker Contest after submitting designs that celebrate local libraries. Their winning stickers are now available at city libraries — winners include Matilda Jane Gross, Dre’Quan King, Odie J. Kribs, Faith J. Kribs, Nashiely Castro and Casha Satolic.  News 10

CRIME NEWS

  • On June 22, Rochester police said 35-year-old Edison Estremera-Cohen fatally shot David Vazquez at about 6 a.m. and later fired his gun at an officer during a foot chase, with officers returning fire and striking him three times—he is now in the hospital and faces charges for attempted murder of an officer, second-degree murder, and first-degree robbery.  Democrat & Chronicle
  • Dylan Ghaemi, a Fairport hiker, was brutally attacked on June 23 on Indian Hill Trail in Perinton—police say a Wayne County man is charged with second-degree attempted murder and assault while they investigate a possible hate crime motive.  ABC 13

CULTURE NEWS

  • The 22nd annual Rochester International Jazz Festival is underway at Parcel 5 as its free headliner series began on June 25 with jazz musician Jesus Molina and will feature Los Lonely Boys performing today, Lettuce on June 27, and Trombone Shorty and Orleans Avenue on June 28 — all headliners set to take the stage at 9 p.m.  News 10
  • The 2025 Rochester International Jazz Festival reached its halfway point on Day 5 with the Laura Dubin Trio performing at the Inn on Broadway and the Music Educators Big Band energizing the Jazz Street Stage — more acts will showcase local jazz talent in the coming days.  Rochester Beacon

  • The Rochester Police Department launched its new online data tool RPD Commons on June 25th to give residents access to local crime statistics and police use of force data. Local nonprofit Measures for Justice developed the portal to help improve accountability and transparency.  News 10
