ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • Authorities confirmed that on June 21 a 27-foot powerboat capsized on Lake Tahoe and eight people died, including three from the Rochester region—Theresa Giullari aged 66, James Guck aged 69, and Stephen Lindsay aged 63—with two survivors rescued.  Democrat & Chronicle
  • Crews battled two house fires on the city’s northeast side on Tuesday morning near Joseph Avenue—one fire on Avenue D displaced three adults and three children, and the Red Cross provided aid amid extreme heat and humidity.  News 10

CRIME NEWS

  • Three people were hospitalized after two overnight stabbing attacks in Rochester, with police responding to a 35-year-old woman on Wilson Street near Hudson Avenue at 10:40 p.m. Tuesday — and later to a 67-year-old man and a 50-year-old woman on Jefferson Avenue near Shelter Street with non-lethal injuries.  ABC 13

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Three mayoral candidates including Malik Evans, Mary Lupien, and Shashi Sinha have announced bids for Rochester’s next mayor during an ARC Rochester event. Mary Lupien joined the discussion on Zoom—explaining her vision and plans such as a guaranteed basic income.  ABC 13

HEALTH NEWS

  • On June 17, the Breast Cancer Coalition awarded $100,000 in seed grants to three regional scientists, including Ajay Dhakal and doctoral candidates Fatemeh Alimohammadi and Zachary Robert Smith, to support research into breast cancer causes and treatment in Rochester. The initiative—now in its third decade—has funded over $1 million in grants and is laying the groundwork for new clinical trials aimed at fighting aggressive breast cancer subtypes.  Rochester Beacon
