CRIME NEWS

  • A Rochester man is fighting for his life after he was shot on Dayton Street between Hudson Avenue and Bauman Street—police arrived around 8:30 p.m. on Tuesday and found the 22-year-old victim with a gunshot wound while closing off the area for investigation.  Rochester First
  • Two people are in custody after Rochester Police were attacked while investigating a burglary on Spencer Street near North Plymouth Avenue at 8 p.m. on Tuesday (no officers were injured).  News 10
  • Wilson Oswaldo Galvin-Lopez pleaded guilty in federal court to entering the country after being removed and was arrested during a controversial Rochester traffic stop that sparked debate over police policies and ICE raids—he now faces deportation.  NewsRadio WHAM
  • Rochester police say a 22-year-old man was shot on Dayton Street, between Hudson Avenue and Bauman Street, shortly before 8:30 a.m., and suffered life-threatening injuries while a 35-year-old woman was hit by gunfire at Cuba Place less than 2 hours earlier and is expected to survive — no arrests have been made as investigators seek tips.  NewsRadio WHAM

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Mayor Malik D. Evans commended the City Council today for approving a $680 million Fiscal Year 2025-2026 Budget that keeps the property tax levy flat for the fourth year while funding key city services. The budget cuts spending by $27 million from last year and raises water bills slightly to fix Rochester’s old water pipes — a move that supports public safety — and boost the city’s growth.  City of Rochester
  • Today, the City of Rochester is suing a Georgia homeowner for ignoring orders to repair lead paint in two properties—one at 231 Webster Avenue with 47 code violations and another at 18 Marlow Street with 13 health and safety issues—that have resulted in poisoned children. The lawsuit seeks to compel repairs and deter other property owners from neglecting safety standards.  News 10
  • Mayor Malik Evans spent over $500,000 in his re-election bid — more than three times his spending four years ago — while his opponents, Mary Lupien and Shashi Sinha, spent just over $200,000 combined. Early voting began Saturday and 1,706 voters have cast ballots so far, a lower turnout compared to 2,104 in 2021.  WXXI News
