CRIME NEWS

  • A 25-year-old Rochester man (Markel Taylor) was arrested after a domestic dispute led him to hit a victim on Third Street and then crash into an oncoming police car, injuring an RPD officer who was treated and released from Rochester General Hospital.  NewsRadio WHAM
  • The Monroe County Sheriff’s Office is searching for a missing 12-year-old girl from Penfield who was last seen leaving her home around 11:50 a.m. on Tuesday (she is about 5’4” and 180 lbs and her clothing is unknown) and anyone with information is asked to call 911.  News 10

HEALTH NEWS

  • The Monroe County Department of Public Health said an unvaccinated out-of-town child who tested positive for measles stayed one night at the Double Tree Hilton Hotel on Jefferson Road on June 6. Commissioner Marilena Velez De Brown said officials began reaching out to anyone who might have been exposed and that no cases have been reported so far.  NewsRadio WHAM
  • St. Joseph's Neighborhood Center launched its new Medical Outreach and Engagement Vehicle on Tuesday, June 17 to bring health care directly to Monroe County residents regardless of their income or insurance status. The unit, funded by $2.7 million in ARPA money, will serve local spots—like libraries and barbershops—in partnership with community organizations.  ABC 13
  • Three local researchers received Breast Cancer Coalition grants on June 17 when Dr. Ajay Dhakal got $50,000 to study brain metastasis in triple negative breast cancer patients & doctoral candidates Fatemeh Alimohammadi and Zachary Robert Smith each earned $25,000 for studies on antioxidants and hormone therapy resistance. Their work aims to improve treatment and prevention strategies for patients with breast cancer.  ABC 13
