  • A new accessible playground opened on June 14 at Center Park West off Ayrault Road in Perinton to meet a community call for inclusive play spaces. The 4,000 square foot area features wheelchair-accessible play equipment + musical installations and plans for future additions like swings and a communication board.  WXXI News
  • Retired Rochester Police officer Moses Robinson, who served nearly 40 years, now works to support his community outside the uniform. Leaders from HCR Home Care & Spiritus Christi Church and the ROC Juneteenth Run & Walk organizer share plans to help older adults and honor Juneteenth.  News 10

CRIME NEWS

  • A woman (in her 30s) was seriously injured in an apparent drive-by shooting in northwest Rochester early Monday morning when a car fired shots near Murray and Texas streets just south of Lyell Avenue, striking her in the torso before leaving the scene, and she was taken to Strong Memorial Hospital in stable condition while police investigate the targeted attack.  Democrat & Chronicle
  • Two brothers—Alexander Lugo-Torres, who allegedly had a loaded gun and drove his ATV at an officer while dragging him, and Alexis Lugo Torres, who tried to flee and dragged several officers and hit vehicles—were found guilty of 2nd-degree assault for attacking police near Casa Campo Restaurant on East Main Street a year ago and will be sentenced next month.  NewsRadio WHAM
  • Police identified Henry Brown, aged 70, as the victim of a hit and run on South Union Street near Buena Place around 2:15 a.m. Saturday (he worked as a doorman at Salinger's Pub for over 30 years) who died shortly after reaching Strong Memorial Hospital, with police continuing to investigate the incident.  Democrat & Chronicle

CULTURE NEWS

  • Rochester’s Harborfest returns to Ontario Beach Park from Friday to Sunday with free admission and fun events like a nighttime boat parade of lights, live music, and a sand sculpting contest. Organizers require anyone under 18 to be with an adult 25 or older — a rule set for safety — and the festival will also include vendor exhibits and art displays.  News 10

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Early voting for Monroe County’s primary began Saturday with seven sites open until Sunday, June 22. Registered party voters can cast ballots for mayor, city council, RCSD school commissioner, and county legislature seats using a new electronic system that processes each ballot in about 90 seconds — voters can select their language and change their choices before finalizing.  News 10
  • Seven local veterans received a Vietnam War Commemoration Lapel Pin plus a Certificate of Special Congressional Recognition from Rep. Joe Morelle on June 16th in a ceremony honoring their service and sacrifices; the engraved pins remind the nation of its gratitude for both veterans and their families.  ABC 13

  • Monroe County Public Health is investigating a potential measles exposure from an out-of-town visitor who stayed at the DoubleTree by Hilton on Jefferson Road on June 6+7 and later tested positive for measles in another state. The department is contact tracing and urging anyone with symptoms to seek care and get vaccinated.  ABC 13
