CRIME NEWS

  • A man will spend 20 years behind bars for shooting a teenager to death on Nassau Street in Rochester last summer—he was arrested in Georgia, pleaded guilty to manslaughter in March, and will serve five years of post-release supervision.  News 10

CULTURE NEWS

  • Today, Rochester is hosting the Juneteenth Festival at Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Memorial Park at 353 Court St—featuring a parade at 11 a.m., live music including a headline set by Robert Glasper at 7 p.m., vendors, family activities, and resource tables through 8 p.m. The event celebrates African American freedom and culture while highlighting community progress and hope.  Democrat & Chronicle
  • Local artist Maiya Kettlehone unveiled this year’s Corn Hill Arts Festival poster on June 13 during a ceremony at Exchange Boulevard, organized by the Corn Hill Neighbors Association and ESL Federal Credit Union—The festival will take place on July 12th and 13th on nine streets and will feature hundreds of artists and musicians.  ABC 13

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Monroe County’s 2025 primary election is set for June 24 with early voting from June 14 through 22 and polls open from 6 a.m. to 9 p.m. on election day. Rochester’s mayoral contest features incumbent Malik Evans, Council member Mary Lupien and IT executive Shashi Sinha while voters must be registered party members to cast their ballots — the race centers on housing costs, crime and government transparency.  Democrat & Chronicle

HEALTH NEWS

  • On Thursday, the Golisano Behavioral Health and Wellness Center celebrated its five-year anniversary on South Avenue in Rochester. The center opened in June 2020 with a $5 million gift from Tom Golisano and has provided outpatient care to address a growing pediatric behavioral health crisis — patients and parents have expressed gratitude for its services.  News 10
